I remember that storm well. I walked home from the Metra station during pretty much the worst part of it (and of course was completely soaked). Yes, the roads were flooded for awhile. My yard was flooding in the back. Our neighbors don't have an adequate sump pump and ended up with water in their basement. Our basement, however, was 100% dry. We have a newer construction house and a back up generator (which did not go on and wasn't needed at all).

The water wasn't on the streets for very long. I don't remember exactly, but I know that everything was definitely clear by the next morning.

Now, in April 2014, that was some serious rain and it took longer to drain. I think we got 11 inches of rain in 24 hours after a week of rain that had already saturated the ground. I hope that never happens again.
