I'm not sure if that's really a good indicator as to the political leanings of an area.

Those who attend the rallies aside, I would say the majority of Trump supporters are in the closet. As he's so inflammatory that open support of Trump will always invite conflict, and a quiet, closet Trump supporter doesn't want to have to be bothered explaining his/her views.

Whereas Bernie supporters are much more confident, as even though there views are controversial, the far left is going to assume a moral high ground, as the intent of socialism is seen as positive and idealistic.

Please keep in mind of course I am not endorsing Trump by any means, I think he's disgusting and I think the movement is dabbling with fascism, (although the twitter/tumblr era social justice warrior left dabbles in Marxism to be taken seriously and IMO are responsible for creating the Trump monster). But unless communities are SO uniformly conservative and nationalistic, I think most Trump supporters, again minus the VERY vocal ones, would just rather keep their views to themselves, and smile and nod.

I'm not presenting a scientific survey, just an anecdotal account of yards, bumpers and small talk. RE the original post, Wheaton has a rap for being "SO uniformly conservative" yet there aren't any visible Trump supporters. And there are enough outspoken critics of him to paint a pretty purple picture.

Unfortunately, I don't think DuPage released precinct results for the primary. Countywide, Trump captured just 34% of the Republican vote. I doubt many of those votes came from affluent suburbs like Wheaton and Naperville, where the Republican population seems to be more center-establishment and pro-immigration.

I did a master's degree at Wheaton College -- being a religious conservative doesn't translate to being a political conservative for many educated Christians. There is a Christians for Bernie group on Facebook, and my fellow students in clinical psych tend toward liberal-progressive, as well as the faculty (I was a rare libertarian and Orthodox Christian in the department). The administration and alumni association are conservative, but not the students. I don't know a single fellow graduate who supports Trump.

The DuPage County presidential vote in 2012 was evenly split between Romney and Obama. I suspect it was the same split for Wheaton. Regarding why someone would want to live in a liberal suburb -- I don't understand it. It's the quality of life in a town that counts, not how the people vote. Why someone would want to live surrounded only by people like them is beyond me.

You won't see many if any Trump signs or bumper stickers this election because the Liberal nutjobs are flipping out and throwing temper tantrums, destroying property, etc.

Trump 2016!

Well he asked for liberal suburbs. and i said i was conservative and i live in the suburbs, so i guess i was thinking not everyone who lives in suburbs is liberal. so therefore, there cant be any liberal suburbs.

Which is wise, and i dont have signs of my candidate TRUMP anywhere,, too many fools acting like a fool. You see how they act like lawless idiot rioters at the Trump rallies - most likely Bernie supporters. and also that one Mexican TV station was staging a little protest at the protest, this camera man were making these 3 children pose with a Mexican flag for the camera. it was at one of Trump's last two rallys in NM and CA.

Then how come my Bernie sign has been stolen twice? Also, several other Bernie signs in Wheaton have been stolen. I've never stolen/removed a Trump sign or vandalized a car because of a Trump sticker. So, reevaluate your statement. The Trump supporters are the real aggressors and ignorant people.

Maybe for some the actual politics matters, for me though, it would have more to do with the characteristics of places that tend to vote liberal but have nothing to do with politics.

Arts and culture, diverse population, walkable with some historic charm, educated populace, etc. tend to correspond with liberal politics.

Personally, I think both ends of the political spectrum have lost their minds in the last few years. I myself do have closet conservative tendencies and do believe that one should interact with people of all backgrounds. I would be open to living in places that are more conservative, but they tend to be places that little intellectual life and vibe, and few pubs with microbrews and charming coffee shops for single people to meetup.

But going with theses descriptions, Evanston and Oak Park are right up ones' alley.

What percent Hispanic are these affluent suburbs anyway? Naperville is about 4% Hispanic. Wheaton is about 3.5%. They don't seem very pro-immigration to me. At least when it's in their own backyard, LOL!

You seem to be making the assumption that Hispanics choose a location to live based on the current residents' views on immigration... We all know it doesn't work that way. In fact, some of the most vehemently anti-immigration white residents can be found in suburbs with very high percentages of Hispanic residents.

The biggest factor keeping recent immigrants out of Naperville and Wheaton is the cost of living, though more recent numbers show the percentages of Hispanic residents have nearly doubled in each town since the stats you quoted were noted as a "snap shot". Housing hasn't become more affordable, so it is likely due to economic successes of Hispanic households or displacement of lower income white residents from existing affordable housing.
