Help Moving to Hoffman Estates
Hi,
I am planning to move to Chicago from Florida and have been looking for new Construction.
This weekend we looked at some houses and liked the White Oak by Kimball Hill Homes at Essex Dr, Hoffman Estates - 60192.
But this is coming under Elgin School District (U-46)
Kimber Trails (K-6th)
Larson Middle School
Elgin High School
I heard District U-46 is not very good, but the home prices are in Higher $400 & many are above $500.
This location is close to I-90, which is required as I Travel thru ORD weekly.
Please let me know how this area is with Crime & Schools.
Thanks
SK

Elgin has it's issues. Hoffman can run close to a few districts from Elgin to Barrington.
I lived in Crystal Lake for 3 years District 47. Had a great school system and 7 miles to I-90. Was transferred to Georgia in 2004.
The Estates has rather high prices and will work well if you work in Schaumburg. If you travel in and out of ORD, then you can basically set your filghts around the traffic.
Chicagoland traffic is a nightmare. Only in ILL do they get in the left lane a "toodle" down the highway. Before you know it say hello to a 10mph gridlock situation.
On an opinion side of things.
I for one LOVED Crystal Lake and McHenry County. My wife hated it due to the Chicagoland Booger freezing weather. Where I lived was 38 miles to ORD, would drive down, park my car at the Park and Ride and hop on the plane. Hoffman, Schaumburg, etc., was a little to congested for me. Very high in price and no peace and quiet. Granted, the taxes in the Chicagoland area stink from 9-11% sales taxes in Cook County to high property taxes everywhere else.
I have lived in many places during my career and I will say hands down, nowhere beats the overall hospitality and good folks of the Chicagoland area.
Good Luck,

Hi Georgia,
Thanks for the info. Any decent place in Chi seems to be over $500K. I did spend sometime thanksgiving week end in Hoffman & Schaumburg and liked the place. Heard the schools under U-46 are not good. Few positives I see are Easy access to ORD & jobs around this area.
Thanks

Don't send your kids to Elgin schools, unless they're already in a gang

There are schools in the Elgin school district that do not suck, namely Streamwood and Bartlett. high schools. Elgin High School does indeed suck, Larkin is better but still wouldn't be my first choice.

You can always do what the everyone else does and send your kids to a Catholic school.
