Default North Aurora?

Hey all, im looking into buying a house that is right on the border of N. Aurora and batavia, basically right off of butterfield rd. but a mile or two before randall rd. (i think there is some kind of marine or army academy right around there) anyways i have always heard aurora has some bad parts, but was wondering if anyone had any input on N. aurora around this area? thanks.

The school you are talking about is Marmion. it is a catholic boys high school. that area is pretty nice. we have friends who live in a newer home just off of wind energy. you would definitey have good access to I88 and they are putting up new shopping along kirk road.

I guess what im concerned about is the re-sale value of the house. With it being so close to Aurora and with it not having the best schools (i think its district 129) I dont want to end up getting less for this house when its time to move.

That area seems to be pretty decent. Not sure about resale value though. Is the home newer or older?

the area in aurora that it is near is a much newer/better area. I would need more info to know exactly where and to give you a better idea. The school issue is always a big deal. if you are interested in that particular area, you might want to even go a little further north and be in the batavia school district. school district lines do not always coincide with the boundaries of municipalities, so it might take a little more digging to find out! You can always go west! sugar grove is not that much further west and we just passed a school referendum for a new middle school to be built in sugar grove. housing values are staying pretty good. some have gone down, but not horribly. we are experiencing some commercial growth too. good luck.

I have a friend in North Aurora whose long-term plan is to move by the time his kids (now preschool) get to high school, since it's the Aurora West school district. The lower grade schools are supposed to be good, and by 10 years from now, with all the growth out there, they may well need a high school of their own, or at least a new district separate from Aurora.

The other thing they should do is change the name of that town. Attaching yourself to "Aurora" is not a selling point. I told my buddy the simplest thing would be to just peel a couple of letters off the police cars and village hall (if there is one), and they could be called "NO T AURORA." Instantly sends the right message!

LOL "NOT Aurora" i like that. The home is newer it was built in 1994, it is right off of pinecreek rd. all in all the homes look really nice in that area as of right now. I guess my main concern is that over time the homes may devalue because of being so close to Aurora. Thanks guys for all the info.

Default North Aurora

I live in North Aurora and I love it. The community is great, police are cool, easy to get in and out of places and the schools are great. My kids love their school and never miss a day. It is evident in the parent assembly's they have at the schools as they are always standing room only if you get there late. For now there is only one public high school but I certainly see that changing. It is a great little secret of a community and people like it that way. In the short time I have live here I have seen tremendous growth in commercial business and infrastructure. Tony if you are looking for a home that will guarantee a higher resale value when you sell please tell me your formula for finding it and where you buy because that ain't happening now-a-days...have you been reading the newspaper for the last 12 month??

I also live in North Aurora, have lived here for almost 12 years.

This town has grown ALOT! However, there is still a "small town" feel to it, but unfortunately taxes keep going up as this small town keeps growing. We have been lucky in that housing prices have also gone up, well until recently, anyway.

Crime has risen, but that is due to the new shopping areas, as most of the crime is related to retail theft. At least, that is what the police department has said.

There are bad areas in North Aurora, in that there seems to be lots more criminal activity there than other parts of North Aurora. I would not feel unsafe in any area of North Aurora, however, it is just that there seem to be areas with more rentals and those seem to attract the families that fit 3 or 4 family units in one home. I would not hesitate to actually walk through any area, but I would in Aurora. The North Aurora crime seems to be more personal, not random. There is a police blotter on the NA website that you can subscribe to, and you will receive a weekly listing of all criminal activity. Domestic disturbance and retail theft seem to be the most frequent crimes.

I am thrilled with all the retail development this is a short distance away from North Aurora. When we moved here, there wasn't that much, but there is now! I live on the west side of NA, and love that at least out here, most of the traffic is on Randall Road, but it is easily avoided if you so desire. I don't see the congestion that Naperville or Roselle (where we used to live) has. It may come someday, but here there are still so many farms and wooded areas, that you don't "feel" the congestion.

Schools, well, the ones NA kids go to are great for elementary and middle. The high school does leave something to be desired, but not academically. If you have children that wish to excel, they can do that at West High, for there are many, many honors programs and the band program is a jewel for this district. However, the school is way way way too crowded, the school policies and administrators have very odd opinions and plans, and they can't be bothered with any problems a "good student" will have, for they are too busy with the "bad students". But, if your child has a good head on their shoulders and stays out of trouble, they can succeed and be well prepared for college at West High.

We have been wishing for a new High School since we moved here, but were told it will never happen. Apparently, geographically and demographically, the students that tend to excel and stay out of trouble would be at the new school, and West High would be left with the students that they have the most problems with. That would certainly bring down the test scores, and with NCLB, that is a no-no. That is how it is today, though, not sure what it will be like in a few years!

For us, we have no regrets moving to NA (well, other than the taxes, but that is all around us out here). Oh, and very important, the snow plowing has been excellent the last few years! I am staring out at another snow fall, and my road is not too bad. Doesn't stop me from wishing to move further south, though!
