Hello - I am not yet familiar with the Chicago suburbs, but am considering taking a job in Schaumburg (Zurich) - looking for suggestions (zip codes would be helpful) for a family-friendly area (subdivisions with newer houses in the $500-$750K range?) with top-rated public schools (we have young kids), convenient to decent shopping & entertainment (not too much traffic?), low crime rate, and an easy commute to Schaumburg (1/2 hr or less drive?). Currently have a fairly new/modern 4000 sq ft home on one acre wooded lot in Ohio (within a 100+ house subdivision in a country-like setting) and I am wondering if we will be able to find something comparable in our price range without a large commute (would be OK with lot sizes at least 1/2 acre & a little smaller house - but no mainly tract-housing style subdivisions, please). Would love to find an area with kid-friendly neighborhoods that may include amenities such as a community pool, tennis courts, biking paths, convenient to recreation/athletic fields, etc - or a country club setting with similar amenities (pool & tennis) - also, access to city-water, sewer, cable, etc. is a requirement (no wells or septic systems) and deed-restricted neighborhoods are OK. Could anyone provide me with some areas to start researching online? It would be extremely helpful & appreciated!

Do a "search" of this forum for Arlington Hts, great town, schools, shopping, close to O'hare, metra(easy train ride down to the city), restaraunts, all your requests. There is much other info on here and your commute would be a breeze. Its a very desirable town so a house would be a good investment there. Traffic? Dont know if you will find a commutable place to S'Burg without some traffic, but AH has nice old (and new) quiet hoods. If you want more land check out Barrington and Inverness, also most parts of Palatine are really nice, great schools (Palatine High not so great, but its other High is very good) beautiful hoods, heavily wooded, lakes, rolling, affluent, nice towns, alot of homes on acerage and alot of 'newer' homes, but a bit further to S'Burg (still within 1/2 hr) Fox Point in Barrington is an area that sounds somewhat similar to yours now( homes were built in the 70-80s) with clubhouse and pool etc. Walk to grade and jr High and town. Also a nice area built around Biltmore country club in Barrington((zips 60010)
