So many lists out there but I prefer the lists from US News and Newsweek for ranking top high schools particularly because they are ranked in relation to the rest of the country:

Any particular reason for omitting Kane, Will and McHenry?

I prefer none of these lists. The best way to evaluate a public school in Illinois is by looking at the school report cards (easily accessible online), unique program offerings, and talking to teachers, parents, and current/former students. Also, the schools on these lists are all public schools. It amazes me that people become snobbish and anxious about public schools!

Agreed, but transplants without a shred of feedback, no family or friends in a new area might be wise to pause before enrolling their children in some public schools around Chicago. Don't confuse this behavior necessarily with being snobbish per se. Luckily there a lot of really great choices without the sky high housing prices of the coasts.

I'm surprised to see the Proviso Math and Science Academy ahead of New Trier.

I'm not sure what boosted Lisle High School to number 1. Lisle is never really mentioned here as a great destination to move to more people suggest Naperville, Wheaton, or Glen Ellyn mainly because of the schools. If this is the case about Lisle we need to suggest it more as its so close to the other suburbs, benefitting from a good location and the number 1 school. Home are similar in Lisle such as Green Trails to other communities. This is news to me.

Ok I don't take this list seriously. I looked at the "Chicago" Schools. Top 20...Mather High School? How on earth did Lane Tech not make the list but Mather did?

Also, Rolling Meadows HS ranked higher then Prospect...come on!

Yea it's a weird list. As already mentioned, I think Illinois Report Card, Newsweek, and US News serve as better sources of information for school quality/performance.
