Depends on your age, but myspace may be a good bet, hotornot (if you're hot ), facebook maybe? But that may be a bit below your age bracket. Typically people on those ones are between 14-35.

I am young(college student) and wanted to use Match.com but don't want to waste the money if it isn't great for the area.

I think pretty much everywhere, people are doing this. especially the bigger metro's....it wont be a waste of money. Match, eharmony, craigslist, meetup.com
Its not a weird thing to do anymore, most single people use it as one avenue to meet other single people.

If youre young then I would STRONGLY urge you to use myspace... It's free, just about everyone under 25 is on it, and it is very easy to meet people on, not to mention that you can actually express yourself by making a webpage for yourself to express who you really are, what YOU are all about, not what Match.com or or Yahoo is all about. Those two sites are rather dated actually at this point because they are not free first off, and again they are rather bland, you can't express yourself on them by doing things like putting up backgrounds of horses, sheep, White Sox logos, videos of your first baseball game you went to, whatever... Basically stuff that makes you tick so to say like you can on Myspace. All of my friends have myspace pages at this point and some of my friends I never really was that great of friends with, I found on there and have since started talking more to thanks to Myspace and we now are closer as well. Hope all this helps.

There is still a lot of 'riff raff' on paid sites. Match, for example, allows limited membership at no charge. Many of the profiles you'll see will be of non-paying members you can not communicate with. While you may get a lot of hits through a Match search, many will be from non-paying members and others members who are hardly (if at all) active on the site. The paid sites have many ways to scam people. I don't know the exact stats, but Males outnumber Females significantly on Match. It's going to be hard for Males to have success through the site.
eHarmony might be better for those more serious about it. I've never tried it, but the fees are high (at least $20/month), which should keep people who are not serious about it from joining.

I agree...I dont use match either (shivers..) but for a young guy its not so bad. Guys tend to like it cause they can search by photo, on the other sites like eharmony you cant do that. There is more women on eharmony (me, for one, the cats out of the bag lol) but its for more relationship minded people for sure, and more expensive. I think its the only one worth anything, if you are serious about settling down. But there are lots of good people on match too, and yahoo, whatever. The point is its not stigmatized anymore, and yes there are tons of people in schaumburg and the whole chicago area doing it.

I don't know how you could ever meet anyone decent using myspace. I have a page, but I rarely use it because there's a lot of weirdos out there. i prefer facebook by far, but probably because it's not oriented towards meeting new people as much.
I've heard really good things about eharmony.
