I only know of one person that went to and bought from the City Auto Auction in Harvey, IL. They told me that you do get to look at the car, from the outside, ahead of the auction. A lot of people will bid too much on a car that may not be a great value. My friend was dissapointed with their purchase as they felt the car needed more repairs then they were led to believe when they bought it.
You might want to visit one time before you decide to buy to see how it works and if it feels right to you. Good luck.
