What part of the word "shore" did they miss?

Well, that really says it all.

Just Curious:
North Shore.... North and on the Lake (Shore). Every one wants to be considered north of the City of Chicago and on the lake, however if you get a map you can follow the communities up the lake. Buffalo Grove is several communites away from being North Shore. That takes nothing away from Buffalo Grove. The fine praries and the beautiful forest preserves are not found on the shores of Lake Michigan!!!! Be proud.

The official North Shore communities as stated by the North Shore Visitors and Convention Bureau are: Lincolnwood, Evanston, Skokie, Golf, Glenview, Wilmette, Kenilworth, Northfield, Northbrook, Winnetka, Glencoe, Deerfield, Bannockburn, Highland Park, Highwood, Lake Forest, Mettawa, Libertyville, and Lake Bluff. Note: Many of these communities are not part of the original North Shore (circa 1930). Many have "gained" North Shore status because they are either adjacent to an original North Shore community and have a medium income that is comparable to the originals, and have influenced the area in some way. The only two original inland North Shore communities are Skokie and Northfield. The inland suburbs excluding Mettawa, Golf, Northfield, and Bannockburn, do not have the prestige as the original North Shore simply because they do not resemble the orignals and they do not have the wealth. Skokie is currently the seat of the North Shore Visitors and Convention Bureau.

Thanks for the info. The northshore question was more curiosity. So it sounds like Buffalo Grove is a good place to raise a family.

Buffalo Grove is a very nice area to raise a family. If you live on the side closer to Lincolnshire you will have great schools (ie Stevenson HS). The prices are fairly high for houses. (For example a friend just bought a townhouse for 500k). Hope this helps!

While you are correctly quoting this organization, most of the real North Shore communities do not belong to this group. No conventions will ever take place in most of these communities, which lack facilities and hotels(except of Evanston , and LF's one hotel).
Anyone can name themselves an North Shore group, just as landlords west of the expresway can call their buildings "Lincoln Park" area. The North Shore is what it is, and its certainly not some of the communities mentioned.

It's not technically north-shore, but is part of the north shore group of suburbs in practice. Very clique-ish, like the rest.

Are you kidding me? You just stereotyped a segment of a population that lives in Buffalo Grove and it's okay because "Some of my friends are Jewish"? And do you really know anyone from Highland Park, as there are many "status conscious and upwardly mobile" who live there as well. Same with older Arlington Heights. And I don't believe all those people are Jewish.

Like I said, I'm not being stereotypical, I know many Jewish people who like the outdoors and are content with their ranch-stlye house built in the 70s. There just is a lot of those attitudes and lifestyles in and around Buffalo Grove
|
I don't know how you can think you're not being sterotypical. And why are you separating out a certain segment of the population in Buffalo Grove? There are other ethnicities/religions/etc. that live there as well.
And to answer the OP, Buffalo Grove might not be located near the North Shore, but it is North West and close to the 90 if you need it. There's plenty of shopping and I've heard the schools (don't have kids) are good. It's clean and more modestly priced than some of the suburbs surrounding it. And I haven't met any pretentious people, Jewish or otherwise, from Buffalo Grove.

The NSVCB is the governing body of the North Shore communities, aside from their townships and counties. The NSVCB is what truly brings them together. The NSVCB is not only out to get tourism into the area.

Do you mean the North Shore Convention and Visitors Bureau ( NCCVB) ?
If so, this is hardly a governing body of anything.
