Lakeview to Barrington in 45 minutes during rush hour? Maybe by helicopter. You would be lucky to get to O'Hare in 45 minutes from Lakeview. Evanston would not be much better.

During rush hour? Yes, it will be more than 40 minutes. Perhaps a lot more, especially in the winter. Sunday morning? No problem. Plus be aware that there will be significant road construction on Lake Cook Road next year in Buffalo Grove. Traffic will be a nightmare.

Where is the work location in Barrington? It is pretty big geographically. Will you be near I 90 or closer to Lake Cook Road? If near I 90, Highland Park would be a long and tough commute. If close to Lake Cook Road, it is a straight shot from Highland Park, but all on Lake Cook Road with a lot of lights and traffic - and a daily bottleneck in Buffalo Grove which the new construction is supposed to fix (not holding my breadth).

BTW......HP does have a nice downtown area but is far from urban.

outside of downtown it's suburban. It's mostly families but there are a lot of restaurants and things to do in Highwood and Highland park. the commute would be about 40 from some Parts of Highland park.

Thanks everyone for the suggestions. I am thinking Evanston may be too far to barrington, as much as i would love for that to work out, as it seems like the ideal urban location for young 30's single person, any thoughts on Elmhurst or edison park?

Without checking Google maps, I would guess Edison Park has a slightly better commute. Both are nice areas. Elmhurst has access to the Prairie Path if you want some place to run off the sidewalks I don't believe Edison Park has any trails in the neighborhood, but it's not too far from the trail on the Des Plaines River in Park Ridge, nor is it far from the forest preserve at Devon and Milwaukee. Both have good highway access to assist with your commute.

I don't think you'd go wrong with either one.

Far NW neighborhoods like Edison Park, Edgebrook, and suburbs like Niles are Park Ridge are situated pretty close to forest preserves. All of the above mentioned also have some pretty substantial downtown areas with great eating establishments.
