Safe neighbourhood near Deerfield (Evanston, Glenview: apartments, rentals, shop)

Hi,

I am looking to move to the Northwestern suburbs and I am looking for neghbourhoods around Deerfield with the following specifications:

1. Safe for single women
2. Within 20 minutes of driving distance from Deerfield
3. Or within 5-10 minutes drive of a park and ride Metra station
4. Not very remote and isolated , preferably having a downtown area.
5. Decent apartments for rent available within $1200
6. Parks and walking areas especially for older citizens
7. Medical facilites and shopping area should be very close.

Any suggestions on what possible locations might fit the bill would be greatly appreciated

Have you tried Northbrook, Highland Park or Deerfield? Glenview may be another option but be careful about some of the rentals.

I had driven through the Northbrook neighbourhood and had found it a little lonely. Have not checked out Glenview though.

Do you want a more active community? You might like Evanston then. There are lots of people out at most times. You just have to be careful about certain areas, and you should be able to find a nice apartment in a decent area for $1200 a month - (1 br - possibly a 2 br if you look really hard and rent during an off time).

I am in Deerfield and my parents are in West Evanston which takes me about 20 minutes to get there - my sister is in SE Evanston and that is a 45 minute drive because she is so far East.

I would pick either Northbrook (suburban) or Evanston (Urban).

Are there rentals in Highland Park?

Yes- a few - Ravinia and HP downtown area on Central and 1st I think those are still rentals. The Pioneer Press papers have rental listings for these communities. You should be able to look them up on line.
