University Park
Hey, I Am A 1st Time Home Buyer, I Just Graduated From College And I Am Looking For A Quiet, Safe Area To Live. I Found A Nice Townhome In University Park...is That A Safe Area?

UP is south of the Heights... Chicago Heights that is and Park Forest. UP is a kinda changey area. To be honest, it's not the greatest of neighborhoods (crime wise), but not the worst either. I believe the town is made up of some 70% african americans now and the town is experiencing heavy white flight. Whites are fleeing more for Monee, Frankfort, and Crete. Don't know if that alters your decision, but that is the low down on down there.

University Park is directly south of Park Forest and Steger, not Chicago Heights. UP has been mostly black for a while now (most whites fled more than a decade ago). The crime rate has dropped considerably in the last several years (according to City-Data crime stats), with the crime rate being below the national average. Surprising for a predominately black town, huh, NYrules?

I don't have a negative opinion of them. You apparently cannot read or comprehend because I never said black people were bad, I however did say that the news reports of constant african american law breakers of which they do ( in another thread). Don't like it? Take it up with channel 2, 5, 7,9,32, and who ever else reports it. I don't report it, only watch it at 9 PM.  And as for UP, I said it is mostly black.. and crime there is average. Not the best but not the worst. HMMMMM no correlation there as to blacks and crime. If thats the case, then Palos Park is 99% white and has nearly 0 crime. WOW what a correlation.  Next time examine a post before critizing it. Not the best means it's no Palos Park or Naperville, but not the worst means by no means is it Harvey. |

Hey everyone, i just want to know if this is a safe, quiet area. I very tiny, I'm single, and I want to be safe, also keep in mind that I am Afr. American so I don't mind being around my people, I just want to be safe. I want to know that I can live there for at least 5-10 years and not worry about being shot, raped, buglarized, etc....

You could have that anywhere to be honest. (be in danger) I'm sure the women that went out to do their shopping at Lane Bryant that Saturday morning thought the same thing. They just wanted to be safe and thought they were in a safe area, then boom. You're not safe anywhere anymore... Its really sad. |
