In all honestly you will likely have to increase your housing budget to be anywhere near Westmont in a unit that is considered acceptable to families. †here are some apartments for around $1500-1600 in Darien IL or Willowbrook IL that OK for families but I would not recommend places that are less costly unless you personally check them out and ensure that there is acceptable level of quiet / respect among the residents. Willowbrook and Darien are a short drive to Westmont, both towns have some nice parks and such. Public transit between suburbs is mostly buses and routes to offices are often hard to find...

Default No reason to go that much farther...

The relative costs are probably HIGHER in many parts of Naperville and the difficulty in determining which complexes are less suited to families are more challenging. Naperville covers a LARGE area and some part of town could be an hour commute to Westmont during peak travel times.

Unless your position is so meagerly compensated that you need to consider alternatives I would stick to Westmont, Darien, and Willowbrook.

There is no reason to go to Naperville. Everybody has heard of Naperville even from out of state. The fact is there are at least five or six suburbs in DuPage county and surrounds that are easily as nice or nicer than Naperville. Westmont is not a bad place to live I think its fine especially on a budget which you seem to be on. Lisle would be good. An infant won't need the really good schools for a few years so it won't matter all that much...if you decide to stay you can move to Naperville later. Downers Grove would be good, Lagrange Highlands, Darien...I'd look in places like that.

IN NAPERVILLE?? Probably not! One bedrooms will be at least $1700. Naperville is one of the most expensive suburbs of Chicago to live in due to the excellent schools! Everyone wants to live there. In your price range I would look at Lisle, Woodridge or Darien .

Mod cut. Plenty of apartment complexes where you can get a 2B for under $1500.

Floor Plans and Prices - 5th Avenue Station Apartments
TGM McDowell Place Apartments - TGM Communities
AMLI at Naperville Apartments - Naperville, IL 60540
Brookdale on the Park Apartments - Naperville, IL 60563
Tapestry Naperville Apartments - Naperville, IL 60564

...etc.

Whether they are a wise choice for the OP, I think suburbs closer to the OP's job make more sense, especially since no school-age kids.

Mod cut: Orphaned (quoted post has been deleted).

there are a number of 2 bedroom apts for $1500 or less:

AMLI "Warhol" = $1505/mo
McDowell "Centennial" = $1455/mo
Brookdale on the Park "Willow" = $1430/mo
Brookdale on the Park "Pine" = $1466/mo

Mod cut.
