One suburb of Chicago, more than any other, was famous for being "restricted" back in the day (and I'm certainly talking about all the way through the sixties and arguably beyond). No Jew or black (and I assume other groups, but those were the two that were most evident) could live in Kenilworth.

Today, of course, you can not "restrict" that way. But I have to wonder.....does Kenilworth's reputation and what it meant mean today that it is still a lilly white, WASPish suburb, or is there any significant number of people who are living there now that wouldn't have been able to in the past.

First there are only about 2500 people in Kenilworth to begin with. Of that total, according to the 2010 census, 2448 are white. Not diverse.

Of course, you have to look at the incomes of the households as well.

Median household income is $203,000 and mean household income is $300,000

The details of the school also help explain the range of students -- http://webprod.isbe.net/ereportcard/...03802001_E.pdf

With only 485 kids in k-8 this is among the smallest districts in the region but parents who value the small class sizes and have the means to live in town overlook any supposed shortcomings in diversity -- http://webprod.isbe.net/ereportcard/...03802001_E.pdf

I suspect the lack of diversity is considered anything but a shortcoming for folks that live in Kenilworth.

Anyone can live in Kenilworth. Are you thinking of moving there? If not your post is very trollish.

as the OP, are you suggesting I was being trollish? If so, I can't imagine how. I fully noted that anyone could live in Kenilworth today. As I stated in my original post, "Today, of course, you can not "restrict" that way."

All I was asking was did Kenilworth's old reputation have any effect on people today being reluctant to move there.

For the life of me, I can't see how this was being trollish, nor did I have any desire to do so. I just was asking about the demographics today.
