from reading many of these posts on where to live, it is all very subjective. we love sugar grove and would never want to live in montgomery. but that is just us! you have to drive around an area and decide what is really important to you personally. the whole, "there isn't anything there" isn't really that big a deal to some of us. when you can get to anywhere in 20 minutes or so, not that big a deal!

Default Go Montgomery

I have lived in Montgomery for three years now and love it. It is close to shopping and have new stores coming in. The school systems are great. I looked at both ryland and william ryan homes. I bought with william ryan because the houses were a priced a little bit better, plus their new homes are "green" which is a big deal to me. i thought it was interesting to find out that the two builders are related somehow.

As for Sugar Grove it is a decent place to live, but i think that Montgomery is a lot better. There are a lot of young families and the schools are a lot better.

Me too, me too. ONE minute from I-88, it's a no brainer. Our favorite diner is 6 minutes away (Aurora Pancake House). Great Mexican food downtown Aurora, and look OUT Aurora is on the upswing! If Kimball Hill Homes (Settlers Ridge) goes BK, our money is in escrow so we'll be fine, just sad...

Good luck on the new home. I hope all goes well. You may want to research other avenues of protection against builder's difficulties. Protect yourself from builder's bankruptcy (Page 1 of 3)

Personally I have seen a lot of communities that run into troubles, from Carillon to even developments near Gurnee and closer to the Lake-Cook border. Even if the builder doesn't go belly-up lots can sit vacant for years. It can be quite traumatic for young families...

Depending on where in Montgomery people live..some are in the Kaneland School District, some parts are in Yorkville, some in oswego and some in aurora! you would really need to do your checking when buying a home.

I'd say that the school district would be the primary consideration when buying a house. We high-tailed it out of Aurora when my kids got to be school age, and never looked back.

we have been very happy with the kaneland school district. our oldest graduated last year and was one of the top students in the class. he is at one of the top universities in the country..washington university in st. louis. our youngest is in 7th grade and is a straight A student. all of the teachers that they have had over the years have been great. I know that everyone doesn't have the same experiences, so I can only address things from my own point of view.

I agree. the schools have really done the best for my kids too. My oldest daughter did well in H.S., and the skills translated to college too. The district has changed much in the past twenty years, it has gotten better.

Is all of Surgar Grove in the Kaneland school district? I don't have kids yet but plan on it one day. We will be in Settlers Ridge which is right on the boarder of Aurora but I think that is still Kaneland.
