1. Lockport has high crime? = LOL Maybe, just MAYBE you're confused with Fairmont which is where "the hill' is located and where the drug dealers live. Lockport is Hardly high crime, it's full of middle class white people with over two hundred thousand dollar homes.
2. Crest Hill is basically Joilet, no difference. One of my best friends works for the city and two of my other friends live in Joliet. There's a prison, big deal. No one breaks out and rapes your kids or anything. Joliet is basically a mini Chicago, it has really nice parts, bad parts and everything in between.
It's no suburban mecca like Napertucky or something but, if you're looking for a blue collar environment, Crest Hill is it.

Stateville is at Rt53 between Division and Caton Farm. This is pretty much the NE edge of Crest Hill. The main part of Crest Hill is west of the prison with a lot of industry between populated areas and the prison grounds. The State Police Division 5 Headquarters is also at the corner of Division and RT 53. The prison has no negative effects on the city or the surrounding areas other than the fact that it is a prison. It is a source for a lot of jobs for many in the area and if it is closed there will be a lot of people out of work. Even if they are offered relocation at the new prison, wherever that might be, there are other things to be considered in doing that. Families would be uprooted, children would be separated from their friends and other family members. It's not a good move on the Governors part and I really hope it doesn't happen.

yeah i understand that. i live in long island, new york, and theres a huge jail in a town near-ish me called 'east meadow' and it's still a nice town despite having one of the worst jails in the nation. andi m sure it does provide many jobs. personally, i jsut wudn't live in a town with a prison/jail because the buildings themselves look scary. but i understand how important they can be.
