So we have seriously narrowed, created a number of musts, and it seems that Westmont is popping up in our Downers Grove searches. Any thoughts. I love Downers because of the down town area and many train stations. It seems that Westmont is TRYING as well and has a a train station. It is cheaper than downers, but I just don't know if it is right.

I think the main difference I can see is in the schools. Downer's has a stronger looking school district, from cursory looks at test performance. Other than that, I think you are near the same area resources and one stop closer on the train line, and I believe property is cheaper. Downers does probably have nicer housing stock, and does anyone know if either town gets city water or if they're on septic system? I think parts of Westmont (maybe unincorporated) have septic.

I think Westmont is a very nice, more diverse alternative to Downers grove. I believe the housing prices are lower there. My friend has lived there for years and likes it. They have a train as you state. The downtown has several good restaurants in it.

Off topic but: I would research any unincorporated area's zoning before moving into it to see how the codes will affect your quality of life. Although DuPage county is probably a safer bet than other counties are for this.

Westmont is OK, though as others mentioned the housing stock I have seen doesn't seem quite as nice or well kept. I live there right now in an aprtment complex just north of Cass and Ogden (I can throw a rock at the Oakbrook/Westmont line) and when driving down Ogden you can't really tell where Downers ends and Westmont begins. I'm not a big fan of either of their downtowns, but they have plenty of amenities and such.

I would check the schools out carefully if that's a concern for you.
