Question Is steger a safe town?

Hi, we are looking at renting a home in Steger? Is the city safe? How are the schools? I've looked at hard data, but I wanted to get advise from people who have been there. We live in Merrillville, IN now.

I grew up in Steger. It is a safe, family oriented town. There is the occasional crime but it is mostly caused by punk kids. As far as the schools go, the elementary schools and middle schools are fine, not the best around but pretty safe. I would not however in a million years send my child to Bloom Trail. I went there and it was horrible. The problem with the highschool is that you have people from Sauk Village and Ford Heights attending, so it really makes it bad. If you can afford to you always have the option of sending your children to private schools once they get into high school. There is a rumor that Steger and Crete are trying to build a new highschool that would only be for Steger and Crete, if that happens then the schools would be wonderful. If you have anymore questions please contact me I would be happy to help you.

Default steger

Steger is a working class community. The schools aren't that good and the neighborhood as a whole seems to be in decline. Crete is sorta like its country cousin and if they were to build a school it would be better than what they have now. I suspicion you are better off in Merriville. I would look at Munster if I were you. If you are looking at Steger you must be looking for a fairly affordable place.

The effects of Ford City will only cause Steger to deteriorate further. I wouldn't buy there if I was you. You can do better.
