Hispanic population in Chicagoland is dominated by Mexicans. There are also some immigrants from Guatemala, Nicaragua, Costa Rica, Ecuador, Columbia, but comparing with Mexicans their numbers are insignificant. I've recently read that Chicagoland is believed to have the third largest number of Mexican nationals after SoCal and Houston metro area.

Some are in this country legaly, yet very many had to use other channels to get here. Their income and plans for the future greatly depend on the type of skills they brought with themselves when crossing the border.

A young country boy from a dirt-poor peasant family is likely to end up being a dishwasher or joining a landscaping crew and, if lucky, saving between ten and twenty thousand dollars and eventually heading home with glory.

But, for instance, a man with established masonry skills earns enough here to have a desire to bring his family over(if he hadn't done so already) and permanently put roots in Chicago. This is an example of you father's potential client. Chicagoland seems to have more Mexican immigrants of this sort than other places around the country. Some of them have the kind of level of tradesmanship and enterpreneurial spirit that they would open their own business if they had proper papers.

As I mentioned before you would probably end up living in North or Northwest suburbs. This is in North/Northwest portion of Cook county and Southern portion of Lake county. Hispanics are present in that area in large numbers. Many suburbs have areas where hispanic families tend to congregate. Cook county - Wheeling, Rolling Meadows, Des Plaines, Niles, Schaumburg, Arlington Heights, Mount Prospect, Palatine. Lake county - Mundelein, Round Lake(Round Lake Park, Round Lake Beach as well), Waukegan.

Also they are present in good numbers in parts neighboring McHenry(places like Woodstock, McHenry) and Kane(Elgin, Carpentersville, Aurora) counties, but that would be a quite a distance from were you would live.

If your father doesn't mind venturing into the city, there are neighborhoods on the North side of Chicago, where he would be in business as well.
