I will be starting a job in Tinley Park soon, and plan to move a bit closer to shorten my commute (I'm currently in Forest Park). Does anybody have experience with commuting from La Grange to Tinley Park during normal 9-5 hours? Would I be better off moving somewhere closer, or somewhere with Metra access?

Yes. Move closer. A commute by car will involve Rt 45 or 43 extensively and take you an hour at rush hour. I could describe some complicated itineraries involving two- lane roads and back alleys thru the Forest Preserves and it might save you 4 minutes, or routes using the Interstates that would take 2 hrs.

As the famer told the lost tourist asking directions- "Porkshank Junction? You can't get there from here."

Don’t listen to the other poster. Commuting to Tinley should not be that challenging. I don’t go to Tinley but I work in south Orland and take LaGrange road for much of my commute as do many of my coworkers who commute from DuPage county. The average commute for people in places like Downers and parts of Naperville is about 45 minutes. We even had people as far north as Park Ride who only took 45 minutes. I live farther east and it takes me 25-30 minutes. The commute is primarily the opposite way you are driving, so it will not take long. On a bad day, it only takes me about 35 minutes going through the forest preserves and on LaGrange road.

GPS says it’ll take 45-50 minutes, so the commute seems doable. Moving near Tinley’s metra line seems out of the question.

At AM rush hour, it'll take the OP 20 min just to get to the expressway from a home in LaGrange. On 45/43, thanks to all the lites involved, the LG-TP trip takes 45+ min even at 3AM and no traffic at all.

It's a 30 mile trip, so even at 60mph and no lites, it takes 30 min. Add in 1 min delays at 20 stop lites along the way and reduce speed to the 45mph limit and you're up to an hour without accounting for traffic delays....And it's not like it's a relaxing, scenic drive-- it's the congested SW 'burbs....I'd just move to WI (Oh..Wait! I already did that.)

From Forest Park to Tinley is a 45-50 min trip in the morning. I drive from Hillside to Palos Park often during afternoon rush hour and it’s about a 30/35 min trip for me.

This is a month old, but yeah the only problem with this commute is there's no expressway between La Grange and Tinley Park you can take. Your only option would be LG road all the way south. I know normally the stretch of this road between Countryside and Orland Park (the foresty area) is the fastest and almost is like a mini expressway to itself. But I'm not sure how bad the rush hour commute in the morning would be. Things can get a bit backed up in Countryside during the evening rush though. Overall, it shouldn't be too bad.

Thanks for the input! I ended up choosing a place in Thornton, moving in a couple of weeks.
