Safe area of Mount Prospect
Hello all, I was wondering if anyone has any info on how safe Mount Prospect is. Everyone I talk to says there are "pockets of good and bad". I am looking to move into an apartment at the northeast corner of Dempster and Busse, so theft/vandalism info in that paticualr area would be best. Any info anyone can give me would be greatly appreciated. Thank you very much

No real "pockets"
That is not the "bad" but it clearly is NOT the best part. I would disagree about "pockets of good & bad" -- generally the single family detached homes are all quite safe. The most desirable elementary school(s) serves those who live north of Golf near the golf course, though none of the schools are "unsafe".
Cops cruise the apartment complexes very heavily ( I think they may even some special dedicated units) so vandalism are other minor stuff is not too big an issue. There were some landlords that really late their places go to hell but those were isolated incidents.
Mount Prospect is pretty good place to live -- the biggest negative in the southern section is the proximately to O'hare landings/takeoffs, though with United HQ still there I think a lot of stewardesses and pilots are immune

I'm sorry I have to laugh. Safe area of Mount Prospect? You are kidding, right? Where are you from, Cinderella's castle?

mt. prospect is safe
Mt. Prospect is safe. That area around dempster and busse is probably one of the poorest areas. I don't know your budget, but there are much nicer areas of Mt. Prospect to live but probably not quite as cheap. Arlington Heights also has some affordable apartments as does Rolling Meadows.
You will definitely hear OHare from the apartments you are looking at.

Oh please- I've was born/raised in Mount Prospect and probably the worst thing I've ever seen is a house catching fire. I would say the nicest areas would be the area north of golf and then moving east towards downtown mount prospect.

Oh please! I have to laugh- I spent my entire child hood in Mount Prospect, the worst thing I've seen happen were the football players houses getting TP'd by the cheerleaders, and a house that caught fire. The nicest areas would include the area North of Golf, from Meier rd east towards Downtown Mount Prospect

I agree with the other posters.
You really can't go wrong with Mt. Prospect. Its a nice family oriented place. I live on the south end right by O'Hare and I like it.
There are a couple run down apartment complexes on the south end, but Mt. Prospect is very safe.
Honestly anyone who told you about some parts of Mt. Prospect being bad is just a little too used to a place that is 100% WASP.
Now across I-90 you have Bensenville. Thats a little more hit or miss.

I just drove through Mt. prospect Sunday never having been through there before. The area right near Desplaines, along Maple Street and ?? By the rec center and the pool... had to have been south area of Mt. prospect? (again, not familiar with the town)
REALLY nice area. Lots of teardowns looked like they had been done well too, bungalows and nice brick old houses, this part looked exactly like Elmhurst where I grew up. That area is definitely NOT bad - you don't see teardowns in bad areas. Looked cool to me - kinda looked like the nice parts arlington heights too.

The safe part of Mt. Prospect is called "Mt. Prospect".
I'm sure there are a few rental buildings that may trigger more police calls than your typical cul de sac, but safety isn't much of an issue anywhere in that suburb. Of course, you should always exercise reasonable caution anywhere in a large metro area.

Mt. Prospect is safer than the safest neighborhoods in Chicago.
