Vouchers amounts are adjusted by ZIP code. This was sorely needed. We need to get more voucher holders into our more affluent communities.

I would also assume that a progressive place like Oak Park with its commitment to diversity would require the set aside of a substantial quantity of affordable housing units in its new developments.

Hanover Park has pockets of section 8 housing and has a Metra rail access. Try looking there. With the section 8 thing choices are going to be very limited. I also believe Wheaton has certain areas of section 8 housing. Again, on Metra rail. You might look at elgin. They have Metra. And Randall rd has bus routes. No Europeans here though. Elgin is over 50 percent mexican. But lots of older housing with a slowly up and coming downtown.

So two things - Oak Park has a specific, additional 'section 8' type of program called oak park housing authority that gives payment vouchers up to 95% of rent and sets income limits based on cook county and rent based on the area (1800 is the max for a 3 bedroom). To BRU's point - OP also has a separate 'diversity' organization that will look for rentals for people looking for rentals.

My understanding of Evanston is that it has plenty of S8 housing but does not have an additional program. Both can be livable if you get into the program since there is a fair amount of S8 qualified properties in both areas.

Instead of fighting gentrification this is the answer.
