Hello.

I'm going to be teaching in Chiapas, Mexico and am awaiting feedback on whether some vaccinations are required/highly recommended or not. If I need to get some done, where is a good, affordable option, preferably in the NW suburbs but not needing to be in that area?

Thanks for any leads.

Always ask your PCP first.

Is a lack of insurance the problem?

In all fairness, even with insurance coverage/prices can vary, along with budgets.

Additionally, the PCP likely doesn’t have needed vaccinations in stock and you may need to pay for an office visit when they do get it in. County health departments are usually the first stop and offer travel clinics. You may need to make an appointment or call to see which vaccinations they offer.

Insurance may not cover certain vaccines or medications used prophylacticaly for foreign travelers (malaria prevention, typhoid, Hep A...). When I went to India for work, my employer reimibirsed me for that, since BC/BS of IL didn't cover it.
