Default Inexpensive apt. rental near Libertyville?

I will be starting work in the Libertyville area and I have been looking into getting a 1BR apt. that would provide convenient transportation to the area. I know some of the potential places in this area are Vernon Hills, Mundelein, Grayslake, and Libertyville itself.

I would like to live in an area that is safe and within 15 mi. of Libertyville, but at the same time I know some of the places I mentioned are quite expensive . Is there anyone who could recommend an area that is safe and would provide good rental price? Ideally I would like to spend less than $600/mo on rent but this might be a pipedream

Thanks guys!

Default "East side" of libertyville...

While the teardowns have really transformed this area, the last few blocks before the commercial/light industrial properties still have s few folks that like to be landlords. The area is mostly safe, but the train whistle through and there still are factories/warehouse. $500 is awfully low though...

Yeah, I figured $500 would be a little low.... what do you think about $600? Are all the places nearby expensive? How about Gurnee up north?

I'm accustomed to paying less than $500 where I'm living now

Thanks

Still low -- doesn't mean that there are NONE, just means that they are harder to find. Heck the west end of Waukegan is mostly safe, but the bigger quieter complexes there ask (and mostly get) $700/month.

I think you might be able to swing Libertyville if youre willing to be an apartment roomate or to rent a room in a private residence. Otherwise, Gurnee is a bit more affordable but Route 21 in the morning is a real nightmare.
