Rosemont
Is Rosemont still mobbed up?
I know it was 5 years ago. There is a lot of reluctance to build a casino there because of some interesting characters that were involved.
As far as I know, Rosemont has virtually no crime. The police in Rosemont don't mess around, and I am not just talking about the ones you seem everyday doing the traffic duty in front of the Stevenson Convention Center on River Road.
Donald Stevenson was mayor since the town's beginning in the 1950s until his death a few years ago and held a tight grip on power. I don't know who runs things now.
The mystery may come from its access to O'Hare airport and the power it welds as a suburb to mighty Chicago vs. other suburbs. Rosemont and those who run it are certainly a force to be reckoned with.

Virtually all the homes in Rosemont are in one big gated area. if you don't live there you don't get in. Really "takes a bite out of crime"...
Old Don Stevens finagled the school districts too -- pretty much all the crummy apartments feed into the DesPlaines schools are make things tough with all the ESL kids. Meanwhile the homes "inside the gate" go to Rosemont ESD 78 -- a single K-8 school with enrollment under 300 kids and then Leyden 212...

I think everybody knows everybody. The were lots of rumors that Donald Stephens had mob connections. He was pretty much treated like a God. I think you can get really cushy job with the city of Rosemont if you have connections. It is very, very closed off to outsiders.
I love hearing good Rosemont stories. I find the town really fascinating. Plus there's like one entrance into it.

I didn't mean it literally. "We don't want nobody nobody sent" is an inside Chicago joke, uttered by the late Mayor Daley (well, he didn't mean it as a joke), which sums up pretty well how Chicago works.
