We will be relocating from TX (Keller) to Western Suburbs once all the COVID mess settles down. Ideally would have liked to have moved before the school year next year but that might not happen now and we do have some flexibility on timing.

Our son is graduating this year from High School and likely attending Purdue so Chicago actually puts us closer to him. BUT... we have 2 girls that will be going into the 7th and 8th grades next school year.

My office is in North Aurora just north of 88 but will be moving to Naperville in office building just on South side of 88 so Metra and commute to downtown is not a concern. I do like the downtown Naperville area and thought Geneva has some cool personality as well.

Schools are probably the most important factor to us. Our 8th grader is a cheerleader and also in Show Choir (it seems that Show Choir isn't a big thing in IL). Our 7th grader is in band and plays the oboe. We are in a strong academic school here in TX and it appears that Naperville 203/204, Geneva 304 and St Charles 303 are all strong academically.

Our house budget is probably $450k-$750k. Looks like that will be a better fit for Geneva/STC than Naperville.

So.... I am sure there things I am missing and overlooking... no need to roast me- we aren't incredibly versed on the area but welcome you feedback.

Welcome to the area! There are a lot of great areas around Naperville to live in, including Naperville itself.

Focusing more so on the show choir tidbit - not every school offers show choir. If that is a must-have, I would focus on middle/high schools that do offer the opportunity. Here is a link to the schools in Illinois that offer such a program: https://www.showchoir.com/choirs/state.php?st=IL.

Naperville North/Central and Waubonsie Valley are 3/5 high schools in Naperville, and they offer a show choir program. Other places I would look include: Clarendon Hills (Hinsdale Central), Wheaton (Wheaton North & Wheaton Warrenville South), or Batavia (Batavia HS). While great areas, St. Charles and Geneva do not seem to offer show choirs in their high schools.

Just some food for thought. I think you're definitely looking in the right direction, and the academics are very strong in the Chicagoland area!

You can't go wrong with any of the areas you mentioned, but if you'll eventually be working in Naperville, I'd focus on living there or very close. St. Charles to Naperville with some traffic will take you 40ish minutes. Geneva is a little closer. I'm in St. Charles and have kids in 303. I asked and they said there's no show choir, but many other band/choir programs. They're also active in band/choir.

No one will roast you here, lol. It's a great area, although the Winter weather will be quite a change from Texas. On the bright side, Summers here are usually mild and most nights are cool enough to open the windows and get some fresh air. I know what it's like moving across the country so if you need any help or have additional questions, please let us know.

Welcome and good luck with your move!

Having lived in Naperville and Batavia, and knowing something about the Geneva, StC and Naperville school districts, I'd pick Naperville.... both District 203/204 are better school districts overall (though Gen/Stc are certainly not bad by any stretch) and Naperville itself offers a much nicer central district and is closer to 88 for getting to other parts of the area/Chicago. You should have no issues in finding a very nice updated 4-5 BR home in the central part of Naperville for 450k$-750k$ - especially since you don't need to be walking distance to the Metra (train) station.

Nothing wrong with any of these :

Batavia does have a robust music program, and a show choir. Also puts you very close to North Aurora. Comparable district to Geneva/STC, though Naperville's districts are stronger.

I lived in St. Charles and my kids went to school there, taught kids from Geneva schools, and liked both systems very much.
But I wouldn't want to commute--I'd just do Naperville if I were you.

My kids went to Waubonsie Valley - they have an extremely competitive show choir. They win tons of competitions/awards - pretty much every contest they enter. They do not have a good cheer program, however (my daughter can attest via personal experience). Neuqua Valley has a very strong cheer program, but lags Waubonsie in the music department. Waubonsie Valley is in Aurora, but parts of Naperville attend the school through District 204.

Every HS in District 203 or 204 are extraordinary and you will be very impressed with the academic, special services, extra curriculars, etc. Real estate taxes are quite high and these school are the benefit of that.

In your shoes, I would definitely stay in Naperville. It's the nicest of these suburbs, has way more going on, has a beautiful downtown full of nightlife and a riverwalk.

For 600K, you can find a very nice house in Naperville, close to everything you want. Coming from TX, I'd think this would be your vibe more than the other places.

I prefer Naperville. Its large, has good schools, a wonderful downtown and other shopping areas, and its nearby the tollroad which St. Charles is not. Geneva and St. Charles are just a little too far west for me and makes trips to points east difficult. Much faster and easier to get to Chicago on the train or driving from Naperville.

Purdue...good call! Great school and going into the 9th year of their freeze on tuition!
