Glendale Heights area housing
My son will be moving to Glendale Heights area for school. He has returned from his seconded tour in Iraq. What area would you recommend to search for an efficiency apartment?

Hi USMC mom, thanks to your son for serving. My BF is in the Army.
I think there are many decent apartment areas in the Glendale Hts area. He could also try Carol Stream, Bartlett, Bloomingdale or Roselle. What school in Glendale Hts area will he be attending?

Thank you for your positive comments...will pass your appreciation on to him. He will be attending UTI [mechanic specializing in imports]. It's located on Regency Dr near / in an industrial park.

We have noticed only apartment complex ads; nothing from individuals renting the apartment above their garage for instance. In smaller towns that is common. Is the best way to find something through some sort of location company?

Try the UTI Student Services Office
Hello! Please thank your son for his service! I think UTI probably has a Student Services or Student Housing Office, which may be able to help him. My daughter is dating a fellow who is training to be a mechanic also and living in an apartment complex would definitely not be for him because he has several cars and is always working on one or the other. Fortunately he lives at home with his dad. The larger apartment complexes usually do not allow much car maintenance to be done on the premises.
I would do a newspaper search for local newspapers in Illinois and look on a map to find all the surrounding communities that are close to Glendale Heights, and then search the classified ads in the local papers. He may have better luck finding an individual apartment that way. I wish him success!

Yes, ditto to Hollyhock's comment. That is a good idea. You may also want to try searching on craigslist.com.
I believe my brother went to that school, too. He was always working on cars as well, and was fortunate enough to live somewhere he could house the cars. Good luck, and if your son has anymore questions, feel free to send him my way. I'll help the best I can. :-)

Hi, my name is Vicki, My son Dan will be starting at UTI on the 6th of October, he is still looking for a roommate, I found an apartment next to the campus, it is only a 1 bedroom but it is also very close to campus and looks nice. Would your son concider a roommate or have you already solved your housing issue? please let me know either way, my e-mail is frogt00@yahoo.com We will be going down to UTI on the 28th of Septemeber to get his things in order. Thanks,

Let me give EVERYONE the lowdown on UTI. The students there have such bad reputations that no landlord wants to rent to them! The one place that will, Stonegate apartments, is a den of drugs and wild parties. Every weeknight at 8 I can hear the engines of their cars as they screech onto Army Trail.
You've got to be REALLY LUCKY to make it as a mechanic after graduation, I call it the "NBA for the working class" My husband completed the program with honors but could not rise above a line tech job. He quit, and is making much better money in IT. All we have to show for his education is about $10,000 in tools and a recurring student loan bill. I would suggest the Army over UTI. At least you don't have to pay to join the Army.
