In light of recent Naperville bashing, I figured Id start a new thread to better explain this town, sort of as a guide to those thinking of relocating here. Here goes...
Traffic: can be very crowded at any given time, with the heaviest traffic from 6:30am to around 12pm. Night rush usually starts around 4pm and doesnt become navigable until around 7pm. Thats the sad truth, but there is a wonderful train station in town (off Washington St) and one further west near Rt. 59 and North Aurora Rd. Prepare to arrive super early before the lots fill up. Traffic is usually the worst on Rt. 59 south of Rt. 88 allllll the way down to Plainfield and Joliet (near the Rt. 55 ramp). Be prepared for long commutes in and out of the city, more so around the above-mentioned times. Downtown can get congested as well during those times, but Ive yet to have a problem with parking and everything is within walking distance, so no need to worry.
Jobs: You shouldnt have a problem finding a job in the area. There are lots of companies and lots of oppertunities. Nicor, BP Amoco, International Truck and Engine, Laidlaw, etc. are all based in the area. The DuPage Techonological Corridor is also nearby and chock-full of businesses.
Education: Well-known as being one of the best in the state and some of the best in the nation. There are several high schools (Naperville North, Central and Neuqua Valley) which have plenty of extra curricular activities for the kids, as well as other high-points (math and science teams are some of the best in the state).
Recreation: From the Naper Settlement, to the Riverwalk, the bustling downtown with many shopping/dining/recreational activities, the many parks, the swimming quarry, the paddleboat lake, the skateparks, the MANY festivals (ie RibFest, Last Fling, etc), the sporting events (North Central College is right next to downtown), the sports centers, the trolley rides, the fishing and golfing, Im sure everyone can find something to suit their needs. There is also a Galaxy World arcade, nearby Chicago Premium Outlet Mall, Fox Valley Mall, etc. There is no shortage of things to do. For more information you can visit
