Default Rentals in the suburbs

Looking at suburban Chicago. Wife-to-be works in Palatine. I work from home and so, I'd like to have rail access to the city, but we're also looking for something affordable/safe. No kids, 20-somethings.

Any ideas of places to look? I've searched the forums and all of the suburbs seem to have their advantages/disadvantages.

If you have no other constraints I would recommend find the most affordable place you can close to Palatine to minimize the commute for your wife. Palatine has good Metra service and you might find an apartment walking distance for the station. The whole region is quite safe, it you look for the cheapest apartment you might be competing with a rougher crowd, but nothing too frightening. With gas prices the way they are I would minimize the amount of driving needed, and being in Palatine ought to help.

Fox Cove condos - 847-985-6464. Best in Palatine for the price - about $1000 a month for 2br.

Fox Cove is nice. I looked there before I rented in Clover Ridge, which is closer to the highway. I lived there for 3 years and had no problems. I liked the fact that the apts come with a full size washer/dryer, and have excellent management.
