You should replace snobby with money. Seriously, I never got the have nots hating on someone for being snobby. Maybe those snobs want nothing to do with America's decaying culture that is littered with filth and immorality. I can't blame them. I get tired of seeing it myself.

In some circles simply wearing a clean shirt would get you labeled a snob.

Snobs are not extinct. I know plenty of them. Sure, there are poor ghetto residents who think any educated white person is a snob--and they are ridiculously out of touch. But there are also snobs who look down on the middle class. There are snobs who look down on the upper-middle class. And there are snobs that look down on the rich, but not rich enough class. If you have never been exposed to the upper crust of society, you might never run into these people.

I've heard first-source stories of high school football games turning into rich town vs. poor town trash talking. It happens in just about every American metro area.

You are mixing up snobbery and elitism--though they are related. There are still LOTS of snobs out there who judge people based on cars, hand bags, and home sizes.

And they typically have a portfolio that will rely mainly on Social Security. They are called: "Big hat, no cattle" types in Texas. And unfortunately, somewhere there is often some upbringing gone wrong; parents who didn't show their kids what is truly important. I describe the type to my daughters as "gimme, gimme, types" as I attempt to teach them a balance between wants and needs AND the true cost of things.

Growing up I lived in Western Springs and Naperville. Naperville was twice as snobby even though Western Springs residents have more than twice the income of the average Naperville resident.

I don't say this facetiously, is it a case of "old money" vs "new money"?
What I mean is, I worked specialty retail during HS and College in Skokie, Glencoe and Winnetka. Surprisingly (to me at first) Winnetka had the most polite, friendly and down to earth clientele. The families that had lived in town for a few generations had nice homes and cars, but acted like regular folk. A few of the new comers/ newly accumulated wealth were real jerks, who tried real hard to flaunt their $.
My college fraternity brothers from Wilmette were very respectful guys. Their parents did a nice job of preventing the "Silver Spoon" mentality.
