Hi Everyone! Courtney had what we thought was a little scare today. She was in such pain from cramping ( similar to menstral cramps ) that I called the Dr. and she wanted to see her right away. All is okay with the baby, and the doctor said it is just her ligaments stretching, however, her father and boyfriend took her to the doctor so of course she didn't get a lot of advise on how to alieviate the pain. Does anyone have any advise? I have heard that a warm bath or heating pad might help, but is that safe for the baby?
Also, thank you all for your thoughts and prayers for my mother. Mom is still in the hospital, infact she's been in the ICU since Friday night. Her pulse/ox was way low and her left lung was white on her x-ray. She has since had two bronchoscopies to clear it out, and several breathing treatments and therapies, She is doing much better, but lying in bed has not done a lot for her hip and physical movement. I'm hoping she'll be out of ICU today.
Courtney will hopefully learn the sex of the baby on at this Thursday's ultrasound. I'll keep you informed.

Warm baths/ heating pads are fine as long as her water hasn't broken and it's not TOO warm. You don't want her core temperature to rise as that can affect the baby.

Thanks for the update Refrade. It sounds like you have been going through a lot. How is Courtney doing in school so far? How are her friends and teachers treating her? Has she been feeling Ok other than this last situation?

School has been okay for her, many of her friends were already aware of the situation before school started and on the very first day she told all of her teachers. I haven't heard her complain about any negative reactions or actions directed toward her. Infact, I've only heard positive, like the teacher who everyday when they are supposed to move their chairs into a circle will move Courtney's chair for her. The school has a program for pregnant and parenting teens, so she's been able to meet with other students that have been or are now pregnant and I think that has helped her a great deal. She's still been getting sick off and on, and now she's been really sore from this. Courtney has also mentioned that she has to put her best foot forward in her classes this year because she doesn't want to lose any time or have to repeat any classes. So actually I think this has made her a better student, because she's never felt like that before.

I am glad to hear things are going well at school and that she is taking her class work very seriously. As you've said in earlier posts, education will be her biggest asset as a young parent as it is for anyone. Thanks for the update!

It's a BOY! I thought all of you would want to know, Courtney's ultrasound went well. The Tech didn't seem to see anything of concern. I have three daughters ( no Boys) so we are pretty excited. My husband and Courtney's boyfriend are especially excited, this kid will have a wrench in his hand before the age of two. Silly thing for me to think of, but I remember always having to take all three girls to the bathroom, I always felt like a mamma duck with her ducklings. Courtney will get a break from that as the baby's dad and Papa can take him.
I will keep you informed

I got to feel the baby kick! Courtney says he moves all the time, and yesterday she got a nice swift kick in the ribs. It was awesome in the ultrasound to see his little feet and hands. I went shopping with her aunt yesterday and I have to say I got alittle emotional, In alittle more than four months there will be a new little guy in our home. I picture trucks and cars and baseball bats in all the areas of this house where I used to find all the Barbie and American Girl dolls and their clothes. I've told a few people that I don't even know how to diaper a boy, I'll be learning right beside her. They've picked out a name but I won't tell anybody just yet just incase they decide to change it. Remember they're teenagers, anything can change.

Hi everybody! Courtney is really having some problems with relaxing and falling and staying asleep. She seems miserable, and she also has a cold that has been going around our family which we probably picked up when visiting my mom in the hospital. Problem is we all got over it fairly well but we could take decongestant and Advil. She can't. ( any ideas what can make her feel better - she's taking vitamin C, benedryl and tylenol and she has a humidifyer in her room - if she'd use it) She's pretty stubborn, and although I've tried to make her tea or a hot toddy to relax her it doesn't seem to help or she doesn't want to try it. I've suggested a doula and she doesn't think a doula could help either. I'm at a loss. I haven't been home a lot in the evenings because of my mom being in re-hab for her hip. I told her that tonight I'd be home and we'd work on ways to relax and fall asleep. Now I need some ideas. I thought of message, a warm bath, soothing scents and music. She starts lamaze in October, so she'll start learing some of the breathing techniques. I've tried to teach her what I remember, but I don't know if it's helping. So if you have any other suggestions, I'd greatly appreciate it. I just want her to find some joy in this pregnancy, but it seems like if it'a not one thing its another ( morning sickness, headaches, cramps, colds) Thanks
