Firearm Training
I am not attempting to start a debate on one's rights (or lack thereof) to possess firearms or whether or not one should use a gun for x, y, or z reasons or on any other convoluted debate topic involving firearms. I am simply attempting to locate a decent firearm training program in the northwest suburbs. I've come across a few that I later learned are listed on the NRA site. But I am open to others or to people's reviews of any that they may have knowledge of or experience with in the past. If you are uncomfortable posting the information here, please feel free to PM me.
Cheers!

Firearm training
What would you like to know? I am registered with the NRA as personal protection trainer. I just moved to IL from WI and must say that, due to overpowering influence of the masters of Cook County, it does not seem like a gun friendly state.
It is too bad that only IL and WI do not allow law abiding citizens to legally excercise their god given right to self protection.
It has been shown to reduce crime in the 48 states that allow right to carry.
Back to your question, I can put you in touch with an excellent group and classes in Waukesha county outside of Milwaukee (2 hrs north) A lot of IL people took the courses up there. Apparently they are hard to find here.

check out www.heritageshooting.org. Located outside of Oconomowoc WI. (About 2 hrs from chicago) Excellent facilities, and very professional trainers who really care about helping others understand and excercise their constitutional rights. You an learn alot from them about accuracy and most importantly safety.

from what he says... there are not a lot of places to shoot anymore.
OH -- i see you asked for a training place... not sure if GAT has that, but you can shoot there.
OH - just checked their website G.A.T. Guns

in order to legally touch a firearm in Illinios, you will need something called an FOID (stupid, i know).
You have to apply for it through the illinois state police. A shooting range will not allow you to use their range unless you have a valid FOID.
i'm not sure how it works for training classes, i'd image you will need one for that too.

That only works if you're an Illinois resident, which I am not. I must provide official identification, but no FOID required. And, for most of the 'basic' training courses, it's not required regardless.
