Not especially. Certainly not the worst town in Chicago, but I wouldn't go walking through there at night, and wouldn't be so comfortable doing so during the day either. On the other hand, there's a large "big box" shopping center on the south end of town, at Cermak, that I always feel safe at, even at night, and a small residential area south of that. The far south end of town would be the only area I would even possibly consider living in.

Broadview's not the worst, but it's far from the best. If you go just slightly south and west into the southeastern part of Lagrange Park, you'd be much better off. It's separated from Broadview by the forest preserve. (East of LaGrange Rd, South of Cermak) Nice homes, quiet neighborhood -- good mix of older folks who have been there forever and younger families who started to move in in the last 5-10 years. Home prices between about 275-400K. This part of LaGrange Park is much less pricey then the portion that is west of Lagrange Rd (the part that shares boundries with Lagrange proper).
Brookfield (just to the south) of Cermak and east of LaGrange is also a little more up and coming than Broadview.

Nice And Clean Well Kept Homes
Broadview is a very nice area to live. I would never be afraid at any time to be there or live. Any town has potential for crime. The village inspects each home yearly to make sure they are well kept and enforces this. All areas are well patrolled by the Police force, which is one of the best I fell for response time in the area. The prices of homes is still reasonable, also. There are 2 "sides" to the town as far as schools go. The North side of the tracks has Lindop School for it's grade school which is good, the South has Komarek located in North Riverside. Komarek is a very good school with great teachers and wonderful students. Classrooms are smaller than at most schools, and the children go on to Riverside-Brookfield High School, which is a small school as High Schools go. They have excellent sports, music, and extra activities and a great teaching staff. Most stay in the area after High School to start their own families. I do NOT agree with the other comments at all, but Seniors are afraid nowadays in any area. Brookfield homes are old and being torn down in many areas, LaGrange Park is very nice but way over priced and taxes are way too high. Broadview tqaxes are still very reasonable.

Either you have low standards or you've never lived anywhere that's actually nice. The houses may be well-kept (and that's debatable) but the roads are in horrible shape. Lindop Elem has test scores below the state average - which any halfway-decent suburban school has scores well above. Komarek is better, that's true, but anyone living in North Riverside who has any money sends their kids to private K-8 schools. Also, La Grange Park has a lower tax rate than Broadview, so if the taxes are higher there it's because the homes are worth more, which is a good thing.
