Which Chicago suburb have the worst reputation ? (Calumet City, Chicago Heights: fit in, apartment)

Just because they were domestic doesn't make the victims any less dead.

I grew up on the south side. I've lived on the south side of the city, in Burnham, Cal City and Homewood. My DH was born and raised in Harvey.

I know the area far too well.

Still doesn't mean the city is declining because of isolated incidents.

Declined? Definitely.

It it a hot bed of murders, rapes and robberies - no. But it's not as safe as it once was.

Overall, most of the southern suburbs aren't as safe as they used to be either.

I wonder if the discriminatory steering and redlining twithin the real estate industry had anything to do with this?

I probably couldn't afford a home like this in NW Suburban Chicago. Or even W Chicagoland. Oh, right, it's because real estate in majority-minority neighborhoods aren't valued as much.

Can't speak for the many time I've seen the exact same home in three different areas go for $10000s more just because of where they are. It's sad.

First, that was completely uncalled for. If you're insinuating that because I'm a real estate agent that I had anything to do with the white flight that took place 20-30 years ago in the south suburbs, you're mistaken.

The value of real estate typically has a direct corelation to the quality of the schools - especially in suburban areas. It has nothing to do with the color of the skin of the majority of the residents. Have a top notch school district and everyone will be fighting to get in - not matter what the nationality - and the value of the homes will go up.

I am sorry I feel that way too, but never have I felt welcome among whites.

It's not true in every community but it is an incredibly strong tendency almost everywhere. No sense in denying it.

Idk if its me or this is a Midwest thing with blacks and whites. Blacks and whites been generally segregated from each other in Chicago for so long that many whites here are unfamiliar with blacks. CCH crime rate is about average for the US which is still consider safe. Those 5 murders are a fluke and CCH been majority black for years. This is the first time CCH top 5 murders.
