It it a hot bed of murders, rapes and robberies - no. But it's not as safe as it once was.
Overall, most of the southern suburbs aren't as safe as they used to be either.

LMAO CCh is not a hot bed for murder. It haven't been a murder since those flukey 5 murders in 1 week straight. Even Harvey murder rate declined this year. The south suburbs aren't safe as they used to be, but they are no where near to compare to a gang banging war zone inner city Chicago.

I never said CC Hills was/is a hot bed for murder. My original statement should read "Is it" not "It it".
And there definitely are parts of the south suburbs that could rival the inner city.

I know you meant that, but it doesn't say that. Anyhow, the south suburbs you are talking about must include Harvey, Riverdale, Ford Heights, Chicago Heights, and so on. I definitely agree. I think that there is lots of help needed in those towns. They tell me what Englewood would be as a suburb.

Ok I see your point with a few south suburbs like Harvey, Chicago/Ford Heights, Parts of Riverdale, and Robbins. IMO, those are the only ones that can rival inner city Chicago. Even Harvey seen a sharp decrease in murder rate this year. Put it this way, If Chicago southside was the south suburbs, Chicago would have far less homocides than its over 400 murders average yearly.

In my opinion, the bad rep south burbs are at lease trying to improve themselves. Harvey built a new shopping center on Sibley with a Begger's Pizza and a small cafe, Dolton is geting a new Food 4 Less where the old Ames department store was along with a CVS drug store. I know those stores won't change a suburb from bad to desirable, but at lease its a start. Same goes for Calumet City with that apartment ordinance thing that someone made a thread for. At lease their trying....

I'm addressing your response "that [whites fleeing blacks] is not true in every community.". Not accusing you personally of necessarily denying it (the quote is ambiguous), speaking more generally. No point for ONE to deny it.

Well...
Since I have observed that everyone has something negative to say about CCH, I might as well stop defending it. I used to think that people wanted to gentrify areas like this, or help them out when they see that there is a struggle going on, but maybe I was wrong.
I was wrong for moving out here looking for an affordable townhome. I was wrong for enjoying the nature I can see out my window. I am still wrong obviously for trying to defend a city I spent most of my life in.
I have witnessed the white flight from day one. I remember being quite young and watching as whites hurried to pack up and go, and I know there was no other reason besides the "rising" black population.
Our HOA assessments have not gone up significantly, the children are polite, our cars are never touched, and the birds, squirrels, and deer ( ) love hanging out around my house!
I just don't understand how someone can expect a business district to be thriving when people leave in droves like that. Yes, the homes are aging, and yes, this isn't the most exciting town to live in, but it has potential. I guess no one sees that or cares. Maybe I'll start looking for another home soon.

Most people don't buy real estate looking to help areas; they want a good investment, a safe neighborhood, good services and amenities and good schools in a place where they feel like they fit in. When budget is factored in you might have to bump a few things off your list, but most whites have enough money where they can do better than CCH.

It doesn't matter what everyone else thinks. I for one think CCH is nice black middle class suburb just like Matteson. Never stop defending something you love just because a few say its ghetto. You live there, and from reading your posts you enjoy the town. You'll know more about CCH than anyone else on this site would. As long as you feel safe and your happy, stay at your townhome in the Hillz.
