Of course Glencoe is prettier, and richer and whatever. You keep posting that and someone will believe you.

The more someone tries to prove something is better, the more they prove that they are insecure.

It seems everywhere no peace on people's perspective-places are too rich -too white-too black -too what ever! to many , people not like me ! Not enough diversity,
does it really matter anymore, most all of us sit at the computer screen any who!
The rich come in , changing the hood for us poor people, not enough money spent in this area, to many lowlifes, to this to that , people start telling things like, I work downtown; the commute is short from my area, or my neighbors include, black, hispanic, Indian (native American) , white ,

Why would I be insecure about where I live? If I wanted to I could live in Winnetka. My business partner and I have only built several homes in the village. In my opinion Glencoe is nicer and in his opinion Lake Forest is nicer. I don't understand why you have this feeling that Glencoe is in awe of Winnetka and Kenilworth because it isn't. Glencoe's most expensive home on the market right now is more expensive than the most expensive in Winnetka, Kenilworth, and Wilmette. I never made that observation.

Nysee,

When you repeatedly insist Winnetka is boring and snooty, it leads me to believe that you are insecure.

Asking price and selling prices are two different things. The most recent high sold prices in the three villages:

Kenilworth -$9,710k (40 Devonshire)
Winnetka - $8,100k (445 Sheridan)
Glencoe - $5,950k (595 Longwood)

Glencoe is a far slower market so that information doesn't apply right now. Glencoe has far larger homes and larger lots than Winnetka and Kenilworth. Glencoe has all the prestige that any other New Trier community has. Glencoe is also a very nice place for people who don't want to be in the spotlight. Glencoe has a lot of small subdivision areas that are sectioned off from town, where many of Chicago's power families reside. I think Winnetka is wonderful when did I ever say it was boring, you really give away where you live when ever you discuss how Winnetka isn't snooty. I said that the snootyness is not as pervasive as you would think, but Winnetka is snooty, and many think that it is because it is always trying to compete with Kenilworth, but it can't. Glencoe doesn't try to compete with any community, when I moved here my neighbors told me that Glencoe was the anti-New Trier town.

My information on Glencoe was from the MLS which is updated daily. How can it not apply? A seller can ask anything for a house, but what it sells for is a far better indicater of market forces than an overly optimistic asking price. Glencoe has a chequered past. do you even know why the Glencoe shools are structured by grade not neighborhood? In reaction to the anti-semetic problems in Glencoe's past and present. I may or may not live in Winnetka currently Moderator cut: unnecessary
That you would think Winnetka is snooty certainly says a great deal about you. Winnetka and Kenilworth are sister cities. K/W residents shop and belong to churches and clubs in Winnetka (as a matter of fact, you can only join Indian Hills if you live in Winnetka or Kenilworth), many kids participate in WKBA. Kenilworth residents utilize Winnetka's park district and are welcomed. Lots of Winnetka residents belong to Kenilworth Union, as well as having friends in the adjoining communities.

Kenilworth's home values are indeed higher, but anyone who can afford Winnetka can afford Kenilworth. So, unlike you, having lived in both Kenilworth and Winnetka, I can say that neither town is snooty Moderator cut: unnecessary
. Both are extremely welcoming communities.

Wow, this thread really has gone off-track. Sorry, but when I think of towns or neighborhoods with bad reputations, it's because they have issues with crime, awful schools and/or pollution. I do not look at affluent communities as having bad reputations. Perhaps another thread aptly titled "How snooty are xxx? Perception or reality? would serve people in a better, more accurate way.

Yes, I personally feel that Glencoe is a hole because it is no Winnetka or Kennilworth! This and the fact Dundee road brings to the community the trash of Northbrook and Wheeling to what should be the private park ave. beach. How dare the commoners visit Glencoe?

But then we'd be deprived of this ridiculous cat fight!
