I think it's more of an inner city ghetto, since the town and adjacent towns are bordered by the city of Chicago and Chicago neighbor hoods, and it has excellent access to south loop, It and all surrounding area's should jsut be annexed into the city of Chicago; because if we had more cops we'd probably have a little less crime over time. Expecially if we had backrounds checks on the cops and we get the chicago cops that won't take **** and won't take bribes like the ones that are in harvey it'd help the town and surrounding areas. Posen used to be a great town than all the sudden down fall. Graffitti, robberies, rapes, and shootings all occur here. I don't mind the graffitti because I think it is cool looking, but I was shot at numerous times in just Posen, and i don't have any gang affiliation at all. So i figure we should just all annex, expecially since if Blue Island would have annexed all those years ago all of this would be in the city of chicago i say lets do it.

it depends what you mean. if you take wood st. and hit a block off of 151st or anywhere in that area and drive down to say...turlington...you are going to have boarded up homes, 40+ year olds hanging on the corners with "mean mugs", you have the unsupervised children, etc. So yes, when it comes to crime and people...it is totally inner city like.
that's why it is crazy to call chicago's south side suburbs "suburbs" because they have the crime of the inner city and everything that goes with it... |

What does crime of the inner city mean anymore though?
I've never been to Harvey, and may well never go to Harvey, but it's a freaking suburb. I actually don't think much of south Chicago is inner city either - inner city, in i's truest form is high density. Somewhere along the way, inner city became code for impoverished black people. |

The house I grew up in had a drive by shooting after we finaly gave it up and moved out.
I remember they opend Dixie Square just to film the mall scene in the Blues Brother movie. I thought it would have been tore down years ago. |

As with any city in the United States with these demographics, Harvey is an urban wasteland with massive amounts of violent crime and corruption. There was a time when Harvey was nearly all white and, as such, was a peaceful and prosperous community. But when the whites fled in fear for their lives, so did the peace and prosperity. |

And that so-called "income" is really just welfare...

Further back, I remember playing golf at Dixie High golf course which was where the mall is now. I can also remember when the mall opened people saying that they thought downtown Harvey would die off. Little did they know that the whole town was destined to die a slow, painfull ugly death. I'm disgusted to see just how bad it has become. You can never go home...
