Default please suggest a place for our family

We are a family of four (me+husband+two kids, 10 and 4). We are currently living out if Hoffman Estates, but it has become so difficult for us to commute (I work in Westside of the city, my husband in Hyde Park). Given my daughters age, school is one of the highest priority. I looked into Oak Park/River Forest area, but there were not much rental properties available. (Most of the units are in two flat setting, with much less privacy). We are willing to pay up to $2000 for a rent. Can you suggest a place with good school/reasonable commute and more rental choices?

Have you tried LaGrange, LaGrange Park, or Westchester? (Westchester is o.k. until you get to H.S. age as far as schoools are concerned) Even Elmhurst may have some small houses for rent under $2000. That would be still a commute, but not as bad as Hyde Park.

Hoffman Estates to Hyde Park is crazy. If Oak Park is too pricey I'd look in the west Cook areas that emmi605 suggests, I'd also add Brookfield and the greater Orland Park area to the that list. Schools are going to vary quite a bit, though apartments are not going to be cheap and very difficult to find in the areas that have the highest performing schools.

You can find houses for rent in Park Ridge for under that amount.
