Do you have an outhouse or something? Just curious, could you snap a pic? I just HAVE to see that.

There are less expensive sections of Lake Forest that are in the Rondout/Libertyville School District. It is not all ritzy, but it is one of Chicago's most prized suburban communities. It is hard to move houses in Lake Forest now because of the trend inward and rising gas prices. Lake Forest has always been a hell of a train ride. I live in Glencoe which many think is far but Lake Forest is twice as far from Chicago's Northern Border.

Lake Forest is outstanding and I would probably live there over Glencoe if it had New Trier and if it was closer to the city, because I can't see adding an extra 30-45 minutes to my husbands already long commute.

Man, do you ever stop with the New Trier boosterism? It's not even the best school in Chicagoland! Someone's been drinking the NS Koolaid...

On another note... have you been to Lincolnsire Gourmet in Highland Park? It's a great lunch spot.

Ha! I had lunch there last weekend. Their salads are great and I love the outdoor area. That statue is hilarious. HP has really become a great shopping district.

owentsia gardens in lake forest
Is anyone familiar with the Owentsia Garden subdivision in Lake Forest? How would you compare it to other subdivisions within Lake Forest?

I don't know if I am familiar with Owentsia, but I have heard of it, I can say that the subdivisions in west Lake Forest are not very nice, in my opinion. It is so out of character with the older parts of Lake Forest and the North Shore. West Lake Forest, is mostly grossly overdone mansion homes for pro-football players who want a quick commute. There is one nice subdivision and it is near the hospital and it is called something farms. It is very nice and architecturally significant. It is $3 million+ though.

I disagree - especially considering that most of the builders that have built in West Lake Forest are the same ones that are building throughout the north shore. Only difference is that the lots are bigger in West Lake Forest than in Glencoe, so the houses are considerably larger. But with a few exceptions (like Conway Farms - which looks and feels like more like "custom-tract" you'd see in Naperville), most of the houses are extremely well made and designed - they have to be with LF's tough zoning/design restrictions. They may be of newer construction, but then again, so much of what you see now in Wilmette, Glencoe and Winnetka now is too. To each his own, I guess.
