"Cringe in Disgust". What a nice guy Hard for me to decipher such unkindness towards an entire town and not think that someone is jealous.

I'm not speaking for myself. I'm just analyzing the Liberal distaste for Barrington (which I only partially share).

Was this poster trying to avoid protestants? I think he/she was trying to avoid a place that was "too WASPy". I tend to think this is a dated characterization. "WASPs" haven't really been dominating the ruling class for decades now. Catholics have been part of the game since at least the 1960s.

Well, she was worried about living in Highland Park because it may have been "too Jewish". I don't think she has a problem with Jewish people at all, but was worried about living in a community where she would be shut out by a dominant group. The same can be said for the poster on this thread.

No, as I recall, she was only concerned about being accepted in HP. I am simply suggesting that we try to keep this thread more civil. It would be more productive to say "I like being near "green people", rather than "blue people" are a******. Or I didn't like living near "red people".

She was concerned by the number of protestant churches. Protestants usually go to protestant churches.
In the suburbs that she is looking at there really would be few representaties of any "ruling class". I think it would be hard to find any member of the Bohemian Grove in Riverside, laGrange, River Forest or Oak Park. Few members of the Trilateral Commission or Skull & Bones either.

He/she was concerned about a lack of non-protestant churches as a sign that the place may lack diversity. Personally, I wouldn't use this criteria when searching out a place to live, but I don't think the poster has a beef with protestants. Being a White partially Anglo-Saxon Protestant myself, I was not offended by this comment.
Like I said, the idea of WASPs controlling the world is an outdated notion. Clearly white Christians still have an advantage, but they no longer have to be Anglo or Protestant. I don't think WASPs have had a monopoly on power for at least fifty years. We're not in disagreement here.

Jay wanted to be included by her community, this poster is stating she wants to stay away from some groups. Big difference to me.

I don't know what you're talking about, Anthera. Where's the offensive statement here? I don't read this as, "I don't want to live around White Anglo-Saxon Protestants!" I read this as "Is this a town that's dominated by white anglo-saxon protestants?" Since diversity was something they were looking for, they would naturally be alarmed if a town didn't have a mix of religions. Once again, this is not how I would go about choosing a town, but I don't think they are trying to avoid white protestants. As a White mostly Anglo-Saxon Protestant with an English last name who's daughter is elligible for DAR (laugh!), I am not offended by this statement.
