Ok. You caught us. We have never went up the state and have ABSOLUTELY no idea what we are talking about. We are just lying and trying to argue. It is the only thing that we have in our lives, plz forgive us.
Lets be real, why on earth would we lie about this?! It's not like by us saying that Chicago really isn't that far is going to put the debate in our favor. But which would you want?, a longer trip in moving traffic, or a shorter one that in the time you are sitting could read War and Peace?

Geneva to Chicago in 1 hour on Metra
One advantage of Geneva, is the ability to take the commuter rail (Metra) into Chicago in about an hour. Much less stressful than being stuck on the expressway in traffic.

Listening to Llama talk about Bloomington reminds me of the time we took a tour of an Orlando timeshare. If its so much better, why have 9 million people decided that Chicagoland is better?
I have been to Paxton a few times on the way back from an Illini game looking for a beer or two, each time we tried a different bar and each time we felt like every woman in the bar could have kicked our asses. For a small town, pretty rough!!

I think anyone who has ever visited those towns,or the surrounding flat fields is rolling there eyes at this whole one sided debate, and knows its pointless.Someone is really having a problam with the prospering burbs here,,my guess is they cant afford to live in them so its sour grapes.Very Obvious sour grapes.

Feel free to keep your prospering burbs, if I wanted to live there I certainly could. My employer is a large multi-national, all it would take for me to go anywhere in America is apply for a transfer to anyplace I decided to go to.
As for the women in Paxton's bars, our factory and farm girls are certainly self-reliant. There is also a large segment of the townsfolk who do not frequent bars, obviously such a concept is foreign to some people's minds.

Thank you, Nanannie. I suspect the battle between the Bloomingtonians and the Napervillains will continue even if we stay out of the main currents of the discourse. It's a battle that seems continous and spreads over several posting threads.

Yes,its like what someone else said, whats better-an apple or an orange? Why debate it?Its just a choice. Both fruit, both available, simply different and a matter of choice.Someone on here(we ALL know who) keeps going after Steve and others who try to answer questions about the area, stalking, baiting and insulting ,why such bitterness to someone elses choice?---different strokes for different folks and so on and so on-I think there should be a different forum for Bloom-Normal area and southern Ill,then there would be less hijackings

Hijacking a thread? I think not. Who was the first one to relpy to the original question. I was the one attcked. Look at who attacked me. They have attacked far more people on almost every thread they have been on then I have even come close to here. Who was the one that was restricted for a few days due to some comments? This just goes to show you that if someone downstate attacks Chicagoland, its rude and unwelcomed. But look how many times downstate has been refered to as no class, uneducated hicks and dying farmers. That isn't an attack?!
And as far as me and others from central Illinois being jealous of Chicago, that is rediculous! In fact I can't believe all of you think that. Believe me, we looked at houses near the Plainfield/Naperville line. But why spend 550,000 for a one level piece of nothing, with a laughable yard, and commercial neighbors, when you can get a 350,000 two level home, with plenty of space inside and out, nicer neighborhood, not next to some slum, MUCH higher, and cheaper education(both primary and secoundary), an actuall small town feel, young and highly eduacted workforce, no commutes, every thing you could ever want to shop for, eat at, work for, or be apart of, with MUCH less pollution, and just better quility of life overall. And whenever you need a big town fix we can choose from three big cities, not just the one. So I guess if you get rid of all of those then we are just counting our pennies until we can move there and become more mall zombies. If I wanted too, and half the town of B-N wanted to, we could move to the suburbs anyday. Why? because we have money to save and aren't just living paycheck to payceck to live within some towns borders. Me and my wife, with a combined paycheck, could easily afford anything the western burbs with a nice saftey net.
And it is nice to know that some on this forum judge a town by the staff of the local bar. WOW GREAT WAY TO JUDGE A PLACE!! But that seems to be a common connection with the Chicago people here, if there isn't a good place to get drunk then it just isn't a town. Oh, and the same thing goes for White Castles too it seems!
