Default Nysee's Pick Your Place Poll 1

I have decided that I am going to do my own daily pick your place poll as well. I probably don't know as many suburbs as Stevo does, but I already have some great comparable communities in mind. For my first poll I would like to do Western Springs vs. Wilmette. It think it is good to pin similar western suburbs to the northern suburbs. The only problem I see is people voting for Wilmette or any other northern suburb just because it has the lake, but I promise to get more variable in my polls after the similar communities are all gone!

Please choose wisely, I have chosen Wilmette because it offers more interesting architecture than Western Springs. The CAGE area of Wilmette is absolutely beautiful (Tony Rezko's house is on Chestnut!). Wilmette has great shopping districts, even though Downtown Western Springs is beautiful and quaint, Wilmette offers Plaza Del Lago on the lakefront, as well as a nice Downtown, the Skokie Blvd Shopping District, Green Bay Road cooridor, and the Lake Avenue and Ridge Road shopping area. Wilmette also offers a great park district, the Baha'i Temple, and it has great proximity to Evanston and all of its great amenities.

So far Wilmette has received all three votes. Not surprising, North Shore seems to be favored more often than the western suburbs.

I love Western Springs. Ive been through Wilmette a few times and liked it as well. But... I know a little more about Western Springs and it gets my vote.

It is now 50/50, surprising. One other main difference between Western Springs and Wilmette is that, Wilmette has New Trier High School in neighbor Winnetka, while Western Springs has Lyons, which is a good school, but Western Springs would be more equal with Wilmette if it had Hinsdale Central High School.

I think my next poll will be Glencoe vs. Clarendon Hills

...and Willow Springs is making a comback. I just never feel comfortable on the north shore and I always get anxious for one reason or another (traffic, ugly stares, comments about my grandfather's t-shirt not being appropriate in his condo building..) I don't know if the bad feelings will ever leave. Nonetheless, Western Springs is quaint, beautifully landscaped in most areas and welcoming. I guess it fits my down-to-earth personality more.

I am surprised you would say that. Wilmette is thought to be the most down-to-earth North Shore community, it is by far the least snooty of all. Much of well-to-do Evanston is more pretentious.

The Purple Line and the Lake make Wilmette a clear winner in my book.

I wouldn't call Waukegan a North Shore community. Generally the North Shore are Evanston to Lake Bluff and several adjacent inland suburbs. Wilmette also has the very beautiful Gillson Park and Beach. When I used to work in the city I would love driving pass the Baha'i Temple it is so beautiful. You would not expect the oldest Baha'i Temple in the world to be in Wilmette, IL. It is pretty amazing if you have not seen it or been inside.
