Starting monday I will commute from calumet city to River Grove. I am really discouraged because it took me 1 hour and 20 mins taking 90/94 and 1 hour and 40 mins taking 294.

I really need someones help, is there a time in the morning where there is very little traffic? I left at 8am when I took 90/94 and 7:30am when I took 294 and both had a tremendous amount of traffic. On top of all that I have to take 290 and that is a mess as well.

I start class at 9am so please someone give some advice as what I can do to avoid so much traffic.

Thank You

Default ugh

That commute is brutal, and no, there is no better way than either of those two. Listen to the traffic reports each morning to see which way is running better. Leaving earlier will be slightly better, and if you left at 5 am you'd be fine, but the traffic starts building by 6-6:15 am.

good luck.

mdz is right on. The only way to "beat" rush hour traffic is to not drive during rush hour. Every other alternate route gets just as clogged up with people who think they can avoid expressway congestion, only to find themselves ensnared in street-level congestion instead.

In addition to listening to traffic reports, you can get real-time congestion mapping and travel times at http://www.gcmtravel.com/gcm/maps_chicago.jsp
