Naperville is its own entity. Naperville doesn't have to rely on another town to stand on its own. Naperville stands out in the western suburbs...there isn't another western suburb that stands out as much as Naperville other than Oak Brook (NOT Hinsdale.) For me Naperville is as good as it gets in western suburban living in Chicago.
You are SO right on this. I have often found myself driving down North Ave. through Villa Park, thinking aloud, "am I in Hinsdale?..."

Once again, youre making yourself look, well, you know....

YOU CAN ONLY COMPARE NAPERVILLE TO AURORA, JOLIET, ELGIN, etc, BASED ON SIZE ALONE. So if you think its ridiculous for me to compare two upscale suburbs, with nice old homes and many new teardowns, nice downtowns, Metra access, etc, then how the flippin hell would it be fair for a crime-ridden, decaying, dud-of-a-downtown city like Aurora (or Elgin or Joliet) to have to be compared to Naperville. Whats next? Will you propose another "genius" poll pitting St. Charles against Melrose Park?

Uh, yeah, definitely kidding. Just trying to magnify how ridiculous the poster was who lumped all those western suburbs together.

Sorry, much like the editor of the New Yorker, I assume the satire would be obvious.

This has to be the most outrageous statement that I have ever heard in my life. Congrats! I don't even know where to begin to be honest. There are so many things wrong with this my head is racing.

Let's start first with your thoughts about how Hinsdale runs into every other "near" western town. OK, I'll give you that. But that goes for just about everything in Chicagoland, so if that bothers you, than you must be really unhappy with every city up there. While we are on that subject though, I am dying to know how you find Naperville to be un"distinguishable" from any of its neighbors. LOL!!!! Hmmmm.....? Plainfield is just the simple extension of the ugly sprawled out mess in S. Naper, that has now, or is in the process of consuming all of Romeoville, Shoreword, Bolingbrook, and Oswego. Heck, the line of tract homes and strip malls now stretches all the way down to Joliet. Indeed, I have always found that area to be very rewarding in terms of uniqueness. I'm sure everyone would take that before a crappy street in horrid Hinsdale. What was I thinking?!

I would love to know what you find, besides a boundary sign, that seperates this entire area. I can't think of one thing!

Then we move to Naper's western boundarty where dumpy Aurora sits in all of it's absolute stunning glory. Again, what is this grand seperation that you see? Because I lived up there for ten years and never once saw any distinction other than the fact that Aurora's far eastern housing was nicer than Naper's. To the north and east Naper is landlocked by boring Warrenville, and Lisle, which take the word un-unique to a whole new level. So what is your point?

"Naperville doesn't have to rely on another town to stand on its own."

Are you serious???!!! If not for Aurora and Joliet in close proximity, and the "Illinois Technology Corridor" that does not sit entirely within the city of Naperville, not to mention CHICAGO!!!!!, Naperville would be nothing. Even if you took Naperville by itself (acknowledging that it could support itself), it would be a very boring city overall. It is totally dependent on the others around it for its success. Heck, most people in Naper go to Aurora and Bolingbrook to shop!!!! Why? Gee, I don't know. Maybe it is because little downtown Naper just can't compete with far eastern Aurora, which you know, is only about, ONE OF THE BIGGEST AREAS TO SHOP IN THE MIDWEST!!!

"For me Naperville is as good as it gets in western suburban living in Chicago."

Well I am trully sorry for you and yours. Wow..........

Some of these posts are just too laughable to respond to. If it wasn't true you wouldn't be writing 100 paragraphs to try to support your point. I worked in Oak Brook for years and I would have no problem at all lumping the "near" western burbs together. I've been to Hinsdale so many times (THOUSANDS) and it's just the same town as all the others in that area. I've been to Clarendon Hills THOUSANDS of times as well...I wonder if some of you people even know where Rte 83 is with some of these comments.

Obviously you're more jealous of Naperville than most...which doesn't shock me one bit. Jealousy of Naperville usually comes from the people that think they know Naperville without spending every day living in Naperville. These are the ignorant ones.

Naperville is vastly overrated in my opinion. I live a short ten minutes drive from Naperville, and go there often. Downtown Naperville is interesting. However, I find myself to be bored of shopping, and the same ol same ol gets old. Been to Hinsdale a few times, and it is a 'quaint' suburb. I like the feel of it.

I have nothing against the city, it just isn't for me. I don't even think I could afford it either. To each his own, my tastes are just different from yours. I'm sure others feel the same.
