Default Safe to live around Coal City w/ all the industry?

I'd like to get some opinions on whether or not it would be safe/healthy to live in the Coal City area since there seems to be a nucleur plant and other industrial plants around there? Thanks.

Oh my goodness, nuclear plants, alert the media fear mongers!

The nuclear plants are some of the safest in the world. If you did not know this you should. The first self-sustained nuclear reaction in the whole world took place of the University of Chicago, and Illinois has always been a leader in the SAFE uses of nuclear energy. Argonne National Lab has developed a whole range of nuclear reactors that are all INHERENTLY safe and cannot ever create dangerous waste or emission, though the scared ninnies of this country spread fear and these designs sit on the shelf...

Rant over.

Coal City is a perfectly nice place to live if that is close to where you work and otherwise meets your needs you should have no fear from the nuclear plants that are not even close enough to support the schools (like they do in Morris, see other thread).

If you look at health statistics you'll see there is actually more risk of cancer living out in the Iowa cornbelt. The farmers spraying herbicides, working with solvents on the heavy equipment and just leaving out in an area where they have to depend on private wells put them at greater risk...

Thanks for the info. Do you remember the website where you found the statistics on cancer risks and health risk in general? I have a website which will allow me to find out the air and water quality.

Chet- This is an old post so I am not sure if any one would be reading this. Your own link shows that cancer rates are higher in Grundy County (539.9 incidence rating) than any of the counties in Iowa (the highest rated goes to 531.8). Any little bit of research also shows contamination from the Braidwood plants- Exelon is currently being sued by the residents of Will county and the States Attorney for Tritium in the drinking water, as one example.
Do you work for the nuclear power plants, is that why you've supplied false information?
