My husband is considering taking a job in Schaumburg. We currently live in Dublin Ohio (one of the nicest suburbs of Columbus). We are looking for a suburb within a 30 minute commute, with very good schools in a town similar to what we now live in. Our home price range is in the $800,000 - $1.2 million range. Barrington seems to be a good choice. Would appreciate any input from others

Id agree with you that any of the Barringtons will be a good fit.

Thanks. Any opinion on Hinsdale or Wheaton?

Wheaton is very nice, older homes and established neighborhoods.
Barrington in town is very nice also at your price range. |

My spouse and I moved to Barrington in June. Our search criteria were good schools, short commute to Schaumburg, a metra station and a walkable downtown. We found a house in the village that is a few blocks from the elementary school, a few blocks from downtown and a few blocks from the Metra station; my spouse makes it to Schaumburg in 20 - 30 minutes. We have been very happy with our choice. Barrington is very family friendly and invests its substantial financial resources in the community. The library is superb; the swimming pool, a blast; and the 4th of July celebration, one of the best I've ever attended. I highly recommend looking at Barrington.

Hey, welcome to Barrington. That beer tent always is fun after the parade. We always catch the fireworks at our 'hidden place' up on the hill in the cemetary on dundee rd. Love the houses around the village. Glad you found "home".

Arlington Heights is definitely worth a look!

I think Hinsdale would be pushing a 45 minute commute. There are lots of options much closer to Schaumburg. Inverness, Arlington Heights, Deer Park, Long Grove, Kildeer....all worth a look.

Park Ridge has really nice houses in that price range. You should check out the city.

Here's the thing, I wouldn't want to drive north or west (355N or 290W) if I could help it. Since Schaumburg is a major center of employment, it gets pretty ugly around there during rush hour. I live in Barrington and can get to Schaumburg in 10 minutes almost any time of the day. Barrington/Inverness is probably your best match as far as your socioeconomic position. It's funny-I'm considering a move from Barrington to Wheaton to be close to family but man-it's hard to leave here! The people are lovely and very down to earth, the downtown is adorable, and most roads are very rarely congested. Good luck in your search!
