Relocating for Temporary assignement 2-3 yrs. Coming with wife and 2kids (3-5). We are from Canada. I've been reading the headlines in the Chicago Tribune and coming from a very quiet area, it seems like picking the wrong neighborhood could be dangerous. We saw info on Evanston. My office will be on the Eastern side of O'Hare. What areas are safe and good for kids? Any input will be appreciated.

Hello --Congratulations on your up-coming move. I don't live there now, but know the area well as I grew up there. Some nice family-friendly towns I would suggest would be Elmhurst, LaGrange, La Grange Park, Western Springs, Hinsdale, Clarendon Hills, Downers Grove, Lombard, Wheaton, and Glen Elyn. Riverside is a beautiful community too, as is Oak Park. Try to live right in a town, near the town center, parks, and library. Find a place where you can go for a walk with the kids and see interesting architectural sites. Good luck!
