My husband has taken a job in Carol Stream and we're looking for an apartment ($1000 per month range) not too far from there. Any recommendations regarding which suburb would be the safest and most pleasant? Right now we're considering Bloomingdale.
We live quite far from the Chicago area and are struggling to figure out where we should rent while getting a feel for the area. Any help will be appreciated. |

How many bedrooms do you need? Id recommend a place like AMLI at Wheaton, but a grand will probably only net you a 1 BR. Let me know....

A one-bedroom would be perfect. The stickler is that he also wants a garage. It doesn't have to be attached, but he wants the protection for the car. I appreciate your response. ![]() |

I agree, AMLI in Wheaton is nice. There is also the Vinings in Wheaton - both in the Danada area. There are the Village Green apartments on Winfield Road in Warrenville that would not be too far from CS. There is a group of apartments at the corner of Gary and Schick Road (just north of Stratford Mall) that are nice. Used to be called Camden Apartment Homes but may have changed names. These have a Bloomingdale Address. My only suggestions for apartment to stay clear of would be the Gunderson Apartments on Schmale (Carol Stream), Covered Bridges on Schmale (Carol Stream) and the ones on Gary Ave. just south of Lies Road.
If you run across any and want some more information I travel the area quite a bit and would be happy to give you a local's opinion. Good luck to you. |

Now that I think of it, there are some nice ones off Lake Street which is not far from Carol Stream. If you take Gary Ave. north to Lake St. I think there are several newer apartment complexes there.

My husband lived in the Camden apt. before we were married and he liked them. They have garage spaces for rent also. I have known people to live in the AMLI apartments and they were always nice too. They also have garage spaces. Both Camden and AMLI are close to everything you could possible need. Welcome to the area

I think we'll go with the Amli in Wheaton, though husband wonders about traffic between there and Carol Stream. It looks to be a fairly straight shot north to his job location: Naperville to Main to Schmale, I think. |

Main St and Schmale are the same road. Those of us who have lived here a long time actually call it Main and North Main, not Schmale
I don't think it would be that long of a commute at all. As long as you are not stopped by a train in you should be fine. As you live here you'll find ways to avoid going on Main St. if you don't want to. Where in Carol Stream is he headed. You can take President Street North instead of Main St. to avoid downtown traffic. You can also take Gary Ave north towards Carol Stream. You'll like AMLI, there are lots of restaurants, grocery stores, retail shops, etc... within walking distance to AMLI. Plus the expressways are close by (88 and 355). Not sure if you are a bike rider, walker or runner but on the other side of Butterfield Road there is a nice forest preserve with paths/trails. You can walk there from AMLI. |

Its not a bad drive at all, and the area youll be at in Wheaton is very nice. Well, the whole town is, actually. Anyways, lots of shopping right over there, and youre a decently short drive down Butterfield Road into Lombard/Oak Brook area where there is even more shopping and dining, and youll be about 5 minutes from downtown Wheaton, too, which always has something going on. Good luck and welcome to the area! |
