Default Plz help! Commute from Fox Lake to 4300 w 36th st chicago!

Hi!

Can anyone help me out? Point me in the right direction on finding out if this is possible?

We are thinking of moving to Fox Lake IL. My husband will have to commute and he works around the 4300 w 36 st block which is in Chicago.

I know he can get to Union station with no problem and back. But any other suggestions to get closer to where he works?

Blessings

Lori

LOL looks like insanity to me. After the 90 minute trip to Union station he would need to take two CTA buses & an "L" train. Hey, maybe your husband can film a remake of planes trains and automobiles.....lol.

After arriving at Union Station he will need to take the 151 Sheridan bus to state and Adams. Head onto the "L" and take the orange line to Pulaski. take the 53a bus to 3500 w. pulaski, followed by a brisk 8 block walk through the south side of Chicago to the 4300 block. Total time from Union Station 1:08 to 2:00 hours flat depending on bus/subway time.

Total time 1 way= 2.5 to 3.25 hours

Driving also would be crazy on time and costly gas! On a good day the 60 mile one way commute would be 90 minutes one way. On an average day 2 to 2.5 hours one way and half a tank idling. I think it would be crazy to make this commute any way you slice it----but if you do:

HAVE FUN!

Exactly. Move to Stickney and he can drive 15 minutes to work.

I would consider something along the I55 corridor.

Lori,
May I ask-why Fox Lake? Maybe there is something closer. I agree with previous posters, that commute is insane. Everybody is going south in AM and north in PM via Rte 12 Rte 59 and other major thoroughfares going from Fox Lake towards close suburbs and Chicago.

I totally agree with studedude, look off of I-55. Your commute will be insane. Union station is absolutely nowhere near your husband's job and he'd probably have to take multiple bus lines after he finishes his over an hour train ride. He needs to wind up at Pulaski & 46th which puts him very close to I-55 and in fairly short driving distance to Brookfield, Countryside, and LaGrange not to mention many parts of the city itself. The closer-in suburbs do cost more and you don't get brand new unless you spend a fortune but if new is what you want you could easily keep driving on 55 and even hook up into the new southbound I-355 extension and spend the same time in a car as on a train and actually be there once your hour is up because you are not going all the way into the loop, instead your husband will be getting ready to catch an L or bus for the next part of your journey if he's in Fox Lake. Please re-think the living near or on a lake in the chain plan. Your husband will be so exhausted you won't be able to enjoy it. I know it doesn't look that bad on a map but it is and it will be. If you tell the forum your budget and the type of lifestyle you want, you will get more specific areas that fit your needs. Good Luck!

If you have your heart set on Fox Lake, and your spouse doesn't mind walking, he would be better off getting off the train at the Healy stop, and taking the bus south from there.

Still, that is a long commute. I took the train from Round Lake, which is a few stops shorter than Fox Lake, to Chicago, for the last few years before I retired, and it was a long ride. I read a book a day on the train, as well as reading the newspaper and finishing the crossword puzzle!
