Default Rentals in the DeKalb and or surrounding area

I'm making a career change and going back to school to be a teacher and am headed out DeKalb (NIU) and I was wondering if anyone knows of any rentals in the surrounding areas. Driving is not a big thing for me, I drive an hour from Plainfield to work everyday so that's not a big thing but somewhere near DeKalb would be great.

finding somewhere to live in dekalb shouldn't be a problem. there are a lot of apartment rentals etc. due to the student population. I would get busy looking, though. my son's friends are moving into their apartment this weekend. and some other kids are moving in at the beginning of next week!

There are some nice new apartments in Sycamore, right off of Rt. 64 on the far East end of town. I mean, theyre literally right inside the town border. I cant remember their name (sorry!), but we looked at them several years back and they were nice and new and decently priced. The ride to NIU would maybe be 15-20 minutes max.

I do believe that complex I referred to has townhouses for rent, too. Are you looking to rent or own?

Rent, just because we don't think we'd want to make DeKalb a permanent home.

I looked on craigslist and this one seems to fit your criteria:
Rent or Rent-to-Own, Newer Home in Historic Kirkland, 4 Bd, 2.5 Bth

This one doesn't mention if dogs are o.k.:
STUNNING DUPLEX

This one would fit, but it says only 1 dog, I think you said you had 3:
Almost on NIU Campus Large 4bd 2bth Walkto Everything

Id look more towards Sycamore than DeKalb... its quieter, safer, more charming, etc. DeKalb is one town I actually do not like whatsoever. Just my opinion of course, but I think Sycamore offers a way better standard of living.

I live in Cortland, 10-15 minutes east of NIU. Cute little town tucked in where Sycamore and DeKalb meet.
Home sales in the area have stalled, and many of the for-sales are also willing to rent.
There is a beautiful 3 year old home in my neighborhood for sale / rent, 3000 sq. ft. finished basement with rec room, 4 bed, loft, 3 car garage. Backs to cornfields. Awesome house. I understand they're willing to rent.
Another with a 2-car garage, other wise same but you can't fence the yard due to association rules.
If your kids are going to go to public school I'd personally make an effort to stay within the Sycamore school district rather than DeKalb's. There's a couple of nice private schools nearby too.
Good luck with your search!
